- I changed fields about four years ago..from the manufacturing side of
- medical electronics to marketing/sales of medicines. I got a career
- counselor to help me. But it was too expensive in retrospect. It cost me
- a good $3000 (Visa/Mastercard..I really wanted out of that old job!).
- They were not a total scam however. They got me into "informational
- interviewing" as a means of networking and gathering information about
- places I might like to actually work at. The also did a lot of interest
- testing and so on. When I finally got to the actual job interview stage they
- coached me through the negotiation process. It turned out to be an
- excellent move. If I were to do it again I would hire the best $100/hr
- career counselor around..one who knew my field and had connections. I think
- it would wind up being a lot less expensive than the set-fee operations
- which advertise frequently in the help-wanted sections of newspapers.
-
- Good-luck!
