- "After Israel became an independent state, many bodies were exhumed from
- the mass graves of Treblinka and reburied in sacred ground in the Homeland,
- where the bereaved families gathered yearly to observe the Kaddish for
- their own and for the 840,000 who had perished in the camp. The Polish
- government devided a unique memorial at Treblinka itself. Thousands of
- granite slabs were gathered, each reflecting in size the number of victims
- from the towns and cities of Poland who were killed in the camp. Small
- natural rocks were scattered on the site to denote the tiniest communities,
- and the whole was dominated by a massive boulder that represented Warsaw's
- 300,000 victims."
