  25. Making the FAQ "hypertextable" sounds great; distributing it as
  26. hypertext sounds like it would keep many people from accessing it.

  28. Many people run unsupported machines with old OS's and small hard drives so
  29. they cannot practically update their software without substantial effort. 
  30. At this site, for example, the unix machines available are:

  32. DUAL 83/80, UNIX PC (3b1), and possibly an XT running Venix (sys III).

  35. Only the 3b1 has news compiled for it, the DUAL might get news if I get
  36. time to work on it.  I have the largest hard disk I could get on the
  37. 3b1, but that's only 50 meg because of space and cash constraints.  Any
  38. more and I have to do hardware mods.

  40. Also, ftp and telnet capabilities are not always available.  That means
  41. some kinds of hypertexts and all ftp distributions are just unavailable.

  43. Let's try to keep these people included in the discussions about
  44. hypertext, especially the FAQ.  That probably means having an ASCII
  45. equivalent of a hypertext FAQ, or breaking the FAQ into many ASCII files
  46. that can be put into a local hypertext engine (not necessarily on the
  47. same machine or even the same OS).

  49. BTW, if anyone has information about universal formats, software to
  50. translate among formats, or equivalent info on graphics, I would like to
  51. hear about them and include them in my list of hypertext-related stuff.
