  13.      I am a piano teacher and use this game alot with my students. It is
  14.  a pleasent diversion from music for them but still tests there ability to
  15.  read notes on the Grand Staff.
  16.      I use a method that starts you in different hand positions.  A hand
  17.  position would be 5 notes in the treble clef(for your right hand) and 5
  18.  notes in the bass clef(for your left hand).

  22.      To start the game right you need to pick a hand position first. To
  23.  select the Hand position Menu, point mouse cursor and click left mouse
  24.  button. The keys on the keyboard are a combination of Alt key plus
  25.  the highligted letter on the top bar.
  26.      To select a hand position from the menu, point the mouse cursor over
  27.  item and press left mouse button. To use the keyboard move the highlighted
  28.  bar over item then press enter or press the matching number on the right
  29.  of items. To move the highlighted bar up and down, use up and down cursor
  30.  arrows. Right after entering a handposition, the level menu will
  31.  automatically open.

  33.  "C Major Treble" - are only five notes that your right hand would play
  34.  in the treble clef.  The notes would begin at middle C up to G.
  35.  
  36.  "C Major Bass"   - are only five notes that your left hand would play in
  37.  the bass clef.  The notes would begin at C eight notes lower than middle C,
  38.  up to a G.
  39.  
  40.  "F Major Treble" - are five notes in the treble clef. Beginning at F, four
  41.  notes above middle C, then up to C, eight notes higher then middle C.

  43.  "F Major Bass"   - are five notes in the bass clef. Beginning at F, five
  44.  notes below middle C, then up to middle C.
  45.  
  46.  "G Major Treble" - are five notes in the treble clef. Beginning at F, five
  47.  notes above middle C, then up to D, nine notes higher then middle C.

  49.  "G Major Bass"   - are five notes in the bass clef. Beginning at G, four
  50.  notes below middle C, then up to D, one notes higher then middle C.

  52.  "Advanced Treble and Advanced Bass" - are notes that encompass all the
  53.  notes on each given Clef.

  56.  
  57.      Right after entering a handposition, the level menu will automatically
  58.  open. To select this menu from the top bar, point mouse on Level and
  59.  click left mouse button. Or with the keyboard press Alt key plus "L".

  61.         There are four levels:
  62.  
  63.         1) Advanced
  64.         2) Intermediate
  65.         3) Novice
  66.         4) Beginner
  67.  
  68.  Each level setups up a timer clock.
  69.         Advanced - you have 6 seconds to shoot the correct note before you are
  70.           penalized.
  71.         Intermediate - you have 9 seconds.
  72.         Novice - you have 12 seconds.
  73.         Beginner- no seconds, take all the time you need to decide which is the
  74.           correct note to shoot.

  78.      Right after entering a level, the play item will light up. Press enter
  79.  to begin a game.

  81.      You start with two guns on the left of playing screen. On the right
  82.  is a bullet, indicating increase or decrease in Life. If the bullet makes
  83.  it to the top, you will gain another gun. If you continue to make wrong
  84.  choses in shooting notes, the bullet will go down. When it reaches the
  85.  bottom you will lose a gun.
  86.      If you successfully gain more then seven guns, you win. Try to use the
  87.  hardest handpositions(Advanced).
  88.      To move the barrel right and left, use right and left arrow keys. Press
  89.  space bar to shoot.  When all the notes are shot, press "R" key to repeat,
  90.  or press [ESC] key to leave the playing screen.

  94.      Teaching many students, I thought it useful to document their progress
  95.  in learning there notes. The File menu is there for that purpose. It
  96.  basically allows you to save a game to later load it back. You may view
  97.  how you are doing(hits and misses). Also, print your game statistics.
  98.  
  99.      1)Load - type in the DOS path and file name you wish to load then press
  100.  enter.
  101.      2)Save - type in the DOS path and file name you wish to save then press
  102.  enter.
  103.      3)Print - will print your game statistics to LPT1 by default.
  104.      4)Dosshell - shell out to the DOS prompt. This is usefully if you are
  105.  not sure where a file might be or what name a file might be. Type "EXIT"
  106.  at the command prompt to resume program.
  107.      5)View - view game statistics on screen.
  108.      6)Delete - delete a Shoot the Notes game file.
  109.      7)Quit - quit the game.

  115.     Shoot the Notes is NOT a public domain  program. It is Shareware, which
  116.  basically  means  that it  is a  commercial  program with  a "try before
  117.  you buy" option.  Shoot the Notes is copyrighted by R.J.Dworsky,
  118.  and  R.J.Dworsky  retains  all  rights  pertaining  to  Shoot the Notes.
  119.  R.J.Dworsky grants a  restricted permission to  users to make  and
  120.  distribute copies of Shoot the Notes.

  122.     If you continue to  regularly use Shoot the Notes, you are  expected to
  123.  register with R.J.Dworsky using the form provided below. The expressed
  124.  condition  of registering is that R.J.Dworsky retains title and ownership
  125.  of Shoot the Notes  and that registering is a license to use
  126.  Shoot the notes, not a sale of the original software or any copy.

  128.     If Shoot the Notes is used for business  purposes, or for gain, then a
  129.  copy of Shoot the Notes must be purchased for each computer it is to be
  130.  used on.
