  1. To play HUMONGOUS CAVE, just type HUGECAVE at the DOS prompt.  This will
  2. envoke a BAT file which will load the "popup" hints and start the game.

  5. SOME BACKGROUND ON THE GAME:
  6.  
  7. ADVENTURE IN HUMONGOUS CAVE is based on the 550 point version of Colossal Cave
  8. -- or, as it is sometimes called, Adventure 550.  The original game was
  9. developed by Will Crowther, Don Woods and David Platt and has entered the
  10. "public domain."

  12. Beginning with the 550 point version of Colossal Cave, HUMONGOUS CAVE has been
  13. further expanded and enhanced to encompass 300 locations and over 200
  14. creatures, treasures and puzzles totaling 1000 points.  It is believed to be
  15. largest text adventure game currently available on any microcomputer.

  18. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
  19.  
  20. HUMONGOUS CAVE requires 512 K of "free" memory and 1.2 meg of disk space.  For
  21. best results, a hard disk is recommended.  However, the game can be played on
  22. a floppy as long as it has 1.2 meg of space -- i.e., either a 1.2 meg 5 1/4
  23. high density floppy or a 1.4 meg 3 1/2 floppy will also work fine.

  25. WARNING!!!  This game really does require 512 K of "free" memory!  This means
  26. 512 K after counting all of those little "pop-ups" or TSR "toys."  Run DOS's
  27. MEMCHK program to see how much "available" or "free" memory you really have
  28. before running HUMONGOUS CAVE.  (Just type MEMCHK (followed by a Return) at
  29. the DOS > prompt).  If you have less than 512 K, do NOT run HUMONGOUS because
  30. it will cause your computer to lock up and your system to "crash."

  33. BECOME A REGISTERED USER:
  34.  
  35. ADVENTURE IN HUMONGOUS CAVE is being made available as Shareware.  This means
  36. you can try it before you buy it.  Play the game and pay the $15 registration
  37. fee only if you think the game is worth it.

  39. Registered users will receive either: (1) the latest version of the game, or
  40. (2) a 100 plus page walkthru/solution for their $15 registration fee.  Or
  41. for $20, you can get both.

  43. HUMONGOUS CAVE was created using the Adventure Game Toolkit or AGT.  This
  44. adventure game "authoring" or development system is also available as
  45. Shareware for registration fees starting as low as $20.  So, if you want to
  46. "roll-your-own" adventure games consider becoming a registered user of AGT.

  48. Read the file ORDERFRM.AGT for more information, or alternatively, you can
  49. enter PRINT FORM as one of your commands during the game.
