  3. Word Report Builder is an easy and convenient tool for the creation 
  4. and customisation of reports which takes advantage of the formatting
  5. and presentation capabilities of Microsoft Word. The programme allows
  6. the rapid construction of reports as forms, columnar reports and 
  7. master detail reports. To link to your database, the programme dialogue 
  8. boxes can be used, or the user may choose SQL. 
  9. Word Report Builder is intended to be a powerful replacement 
  10. for Report Smith in Delphi programmes. While Quick Report is feature rich,
  11. we believe that the power, combined with simplicity and convenience of
  12. Word Report Builder should cover a wide variety of your printing needs.

  14. In order to function correctly, it is necessary that you have 
  15. the Inprise (Borland) BDE versions 5.0 installed 
  16. and also MS Word 7.0 or 8.0.

  21. Installation instructions:
  22. 1) Install BDE 5.0
  23. 2) unzip the file with option -d
  24. 3) add new alias - wordrep - indicating path to the tables in DB-subdirectory
  25.

  27. Two possibilities are available for the choice of datasource for your reports:
  28.                
  29. 1) Your own application can generate the data for which the report is 
  30. to be generated. In this case, the Word Report Builder will construct 
  31. the report based on the data contained in a temporary table. 
  32.                
  33. 2) Word Report Builder can make use of SQL through a query editor 
  34. which is part of the programme. This allows the formation of pre-defined
  35. reports which are run at a regular interval - e.g. aged debtor &c.
  36.  
  37. Here are some of the features of Word Report Builder:

  39. A GUI style design environment, which allows the user to design 
  40. their reports visually inside MS Word.

  42. On screen preview facilities, also within Word. 
  43.                     
  44. Reports can be saved and then viewed and printed as pure Word documents -
  45. there is no need to send any additional executables to third parties
  46. to whom you wish to send reports.

  48. Word Report Builder allows the creation of Master/Detail 
  49. style reports - e.g. Customer/Orders &.c.

  51. The GUI interface means that the learning curve is minimal and 
  52. that users can be operational with a minimum of delay.

  55. and multi-column reports using the capacities of Word.

  62. The page size can automatically be scaled down in order to print 
  63. several report pages on each sheet of printer paper.

  70. Reports may be printed in Portrait or Landscape mode.

  72. No technical knowledge is needed in order for the user to customise his
  73. or her own reports.
