  8. Cross-Stitch Designer is a Windows 3.1 program that allows you to
  9. design Cross-Stitch patterns.  A pattern is drawn with the mouse
  10. by placing stitches on a pattern displayed on the screen.  The types
  11. of stitches supported include full, half, quarter, and outline 
  12. stitches.  The colors of these stitches can be selected from a list
  13. of stitches or from a list of custom thread colors that you provide.
  14. A pattern can be printed at any time in either the stitch mode or a
  15. symbolic mode where symbols are used to represent the various thread
  16. colors.

  18. To use Cross-Stitch Designer, you will need a mouse, a VGA graphics 
  19. adapter, and a printer.  In addition to the basic 16-color VGA
  20. adapter mode, this program supports the 256 color mode.  This mode 
  21. allows pure colors to be displayed instead of the dithered colors 
  22. produced with the 16 color mode.  Obviously, for a program such 
  23. as Cross-Stitch Designer, thread color representation is very
  24. important.  Thus, to get the most from this program, it is
  25. recommended that an adapter that supports the 256 color mode be used.

  28. Cross-Stitch Designer:

  30.         xstitch.hlp - Help file
  31.         manual.wri  - User's Manual, in Microsoft Write format
  32.         sharew.prn  - Explanation of Shareware & Licensing
  33.         threads.cus - Custom thread list
  34.         threads.dmc - DMC thread list
  35.         default.pal - Default thread palette
  36.         empty.pal   - Empty thread palette
  37.         lamb.pat    - Example pattern
  38.         pitch.pat   - Example pattern
  39.         prayer.pat  - Example pattern
  40.         readme.txt  - This file

  42. To install Cross-Stitch Designer, create a directory (such as 
  43. '\XSTITCH') and copy all of the above files into it.  Next, add a
  44. program item for Cross-Stitch Designer to one of your Windows 
  45. program groups.  If you need more assistance in installing Cross-
  46. Stitch Designer, then please read the provided User's Manual.  
  47. This manual can be viewed and/or printed using Microsoft Write
  48. which is a simple word processor provided with windows.

  50. An example pattern is provided with Cross-Stitch Designer.  To
  51. load this pattern, select the FILE:OPEN menu item and then select
  52. the "lamb.pat" file located in the Cross-Stitch Designer directory
  53. (that you created).

  55. To get on-line help information, select the HELP:INDEX menu item.
  56. This will activate the Cross-Stitch Designer help window.

  60. Cross-Stitch Designer is distributed using the shareware distribution
  61. method.  This method allows you to try-out this program before 
  62. buying it.  If you are not a registered user of Cross-Stitch Designer,
  63. you may evaluate the program for up to 30 days.  If you find this program 
  64. useful and/or you use this program after the trial period, you are 
  65. expected to register your copy.  To register, please send a $30

  72. Cross-Stitch Designer is accessed by HELP:INDEX:REGISTRATION.

  74. FILE:PRINT TOPIC of the help window.
