  34.         Installation Instructions

  36. * Installation
  37.    Version 2.0b3 is being distributed as both a 16-bit Windows 
  38.    program and a 32-bit windows program.  If you are running Win3.x,
  39.    you must use the 16-bit version even if you are running Win32s.  
  40.  
  41.    To obtain a copy of Netscape Navigator, first download one of the 
  42.    self-extracting executable files into a temporary directory.

  45.         for 32-bit : n32e20b3.exe

  47.    In File Manager/Windows Explorer, double click on the 
  48.    self-extracting file.  To install Netscape Navigator on your 
  49.    machine, run the setup.exe program.

  51. * NAPLAYER, the Netscape audio player, will only work if you have a 
  52.   sound card installed and configured properly.  It will not work with
  53.   the PC speaker driver.  Please check your sound card manual to 
  54.   configure the sound card.

  58. * Please delete or rename your old CACHE directory and Netscape.hst

  71. unable to install the Netscape Navigator unless you upgrade to version

  102.         Running Netscape

  104. What do I need to run Netscape Navigator?
  105.  
  106. You must have a direct Internet connection before you can use Netscape.
  107. The ability to send and receive e-mail does not necessarily mean you
  108. can run Netscape. There are three requirements for Netscape Navigator:
  109.     1. A direct Ethernet connection to the net, or a dialup
  110.        SLIP or PPP account from an Internet service provider.
  111.     2. TCP/IP stack
  112.     3. Netscape Navigator software
  113.  
  114. You can get a direct connection to the Internet through a service
  115. provider in your area.  You will need to get a SLIP or a PPP account
  116. from an Internet provider (for a dialup account).
  117.  
  118. When you have full Internet connectivity, you need to have a TCP/IP
  119. stack, dialer, and WINSOCK.DLL file.
  120.

  122. If you get the error message "Cannot find WINSOCK.DLL" when running 
  123. Netscape Navigator, this means your computer is looking for the 
  124. WINSOCK.DLL file that is part of a winsock package.

  128.         International
  129. =======================================================================
  130. The Netscape installer will overwrite existing OLE2 DLLs with the 
  131. latest versions for US Windows. This will not affect 32-bit Windows. 
  132. For 16-bit Windows, the only difference between the US and the Japanese
  133. versions are the internationalization of error strings. Occasionally, 
  134. the Japanese user may see an English language OLE2 error message after
  135. installing Netscape.  Currently, there are no Japanese versions 
  136. available for the OLE2 DLLs.  Netscape is working with Microsoft to 
  137. make the Japanese version of the OLE2 DLLs available.
