- INSTALLATION
- To manually start the installer, run Setup.exe in the Fork folder of the CD.
-
- The installer will setup a directory on your hard disk with files to run
- the program. This will usually be placed in "Program Files\A Fork in the
- Tale Demo" on your C: drive.
-
- The installer will run Microsoft's DirectX 3 installer to configure your
- machine for DirectDraw. This is the most recent version of DirectX
- available at the time of this demo. If DirectX 3 causes problems with any
- of your older games that use previous versions of DirectX, reinstall the
- older game.
-
- The game warns about setting the Win95 CD-ROM cache settings properly.
- The cache settings are part of the "System Properties" sheet, available
- from the "System" control panel. Select the "Performance" tab, then
- the "File System..." button, then the "CD-ROM" tab. The "Supplemental
- cache size" should be set to at least 720KB. The "Optimize access
- pattern for" setting should be "No read-ahead" or for fast drives use
- "Quad-speed or higher". Changing the cache settings requires rebooting.
