  15. Introduction
  16. -------------
  17. Quick Bar 2.0a (tm) makes working in the *Windows 3.1 (tm) environment easier 
  18. and more efficient. Quick Bar allows 'One Stop Shopping' of all the
  19. Tasks currently running on the system, Popup Menus for predefined Tasks,
  20. and it allows you to import your *Program Manager (tm) Groups so you will never
  21. have to 'Switch' back to Program Manager Again.

  26. A) QUICK TASKING
  27.  
  28.   The main 'Bar' of Quick Bar contains four buttons that allow quick and easy access
  29.   to three of the most common *Windows(tm) Functions:
  30.  
  31.   1) The Menu Button:
  32.                      This displays a popup menu listing predefined tasks arranged by
  33.                      Group. By clicking a group, the expanded list is shown. Clicking
  34.                      an Item in the Expanded list executes that Application.
  35.  
  36.   2) The Screen Saver Button:
  37.                      Do you frequently need to walk away from your computer?
  38.                      Do you want to conceal it's contents from prying eyes?
  39.                      Is it 5 minutes before the system starts your screen saver?
  40.                      Why Wait? Press the Screen Saver button and your systems
  41.                      screen saver is launched without hesitation.
  42.  
  43.   3) The RUN Button:
  44.                      This allows you to browse the system for applications
  45.                      and RUN them. QUick Bar Keeps track of what has been run
  46.                      and keeps a running list for you to choose from each time.

  48.   4) The DOS Button:
  49.                      This will take you to DOS without having to go to Program
  50.                      Manager and choose the DOS Icon.

  52. B) Quick Task Switching
  53.   
  54.   Tired of Task Manager? Quick Bar contains a list of tasks currently running on your
  55.   system. The task is shown in the form of an ICON. By positioning your Mouse over an
  56.   icon, the Tasks Main Window title will be displayed in a 'Balloon'. Also, by Right
  57.   clicking on the Quick Bar, a popup menu is displayed where the First Item is an
  58.   expandable Task List. By Clicking on the TASK item, you can choose from the list 
  59.   of tasks and execute them simply by clicking the description.

  61. C) Built-in Clock
  62.  
  63.   Do you keep Windows' Clock running on top all the time?  With Quick Bar, there is no need
  64.   to! It has a built in clock that displays the date by Day (Monday, Tuesday, etc), Month
  65.   (January, February, etc), Month Day (1,2,3, etc), and Year.  Forget CLOCK's bother some
  66.   appearance! Quick Bar has it for you!

  68. D) Robust Options
  69.  
  70.   Managing Tasks in your windows environment can become hairy. By Right Clicking
  71.   over the Quick Bar, Three options are presented that help you to manage your
  72.   desktop:
  73.  
  74.   1) Close All Windows:
  75.                     This will close down all the windows on your desktop.
  76.                     Depending on which program is your Windows Shell, it may
  77.                     even exit you from windows.
  78.  
  79.   2) Minimize All Windows:
  80.                     This will MINIMIZE (ICONIZE) all open windows (TASKS) on your
  81.                     Desktop, effectivley cleaning it up for you.

  83.   3) Restore All Windows:
  84.                     This will open all the Windows (TASKS) on your desktop
  85.                     to they're original state.

  87. E) Easy Customization
  88.  
  89.   By Right clicking on the Quick Bar, you can see a list of options to help tailor
  90.   Quick Bar to the way you work and your preferences:
  91.  
  92.   1) Intelligent Response:
  93.                     This feature will HIDE Quick Bar from view then SHOW it
  94.                     automatically. If Quick Bar is Hidden, you can easily 
  95.                     SHOW it by moving your MOUSE to the bottom of your screen!
  96.  
  97.   2) Show Hints:
  98.                     Each Object on the Quick Bar has a HINT Balloon associated
  99.                     with it that tells you what the Object is for.  Checking 
  100.                     SHOW HINTS turns them on, while UNCHECKING SHOW HINTS turns
  101.                     them off.

  103.   3) Sort Groups:
  104.                     When you click the MENU button, a list of predefined Tasks
  105.                     is shown. By Clicking SORT groups, the list is sorted alphabetically
  106.                     for easier selection.
  107.  
  108.   4) Hint Color:   
  109.                     This allows you to modify the Color of the Hint Balloons for Quick Bar.

  112. F) Advanced Functionality:
  113.   
  114.    By Clicking the Menu Button, along with a list of predefined tasks, two options
  115.    are presented:
  116.  
  117.    1) Quick Bar:
  118.                    Maintain File List:
  119.                                       This allows you to maintain the properties and existence
  120.                                       of your predefined task list.
  121.  
  122.                    Add New Task:
  123.                                       This allows you to add a new task to your predefined
  124.                                       task list.
  125.  
  126.                    Import Program Manager Groups:
  127.                                       This will import your existing program manager groups
  128.                                       into the Quick Bar.
  129.  
  130.                    Exit Quick Bar: 
  131.                                       This ends Quick Bar.
  132.  
  133.   2) Windows:
  134.                    Exit Windows:
  135.                                       This will EXIT Windows Quick and Easy!

  137.                    Restart Widnows:   
  138.                                       This will RESTART Windows.
  139.  
  140.                    Reboot System:
  141.                                       This will perform a REBOOT of your System.

  144. Requirements
  145. -------------
  146. DOS 5.0 or Above
  147. Windows 3.1
  148. At least 1Mb Ram

  150. Installation
  151. ---------------
  152. Copy the Files from the Diskette or Archive to your Windows Directory. Then, EDIT the
  153. WIN.INI file in your windows directory. LOCATE the WINDOWS section in the file. Next,
  154. find RUN and change it read BTQTBAR.EXE.  Below is an example:
  155.

  157. Spooler=yes
  158. Beep=yes
  159. ;Add the following line to your WIN.INI file
  160. Run=btqtbar.exe
  161.  
  162. If you cannot find RUN under the WINDOWS section, it is OK to ADD it by typing the
  163. RUN line as shown above.

  165. After this is done, Restart Windows.... Enjoy!

  168. Technical Notes
  169. ---------------
  170. Some programs may not react as expected to the presence of Quick Bar. 99% of all 
  171. programs we tested responded normally. If you run across an application that
  172. does not respond well, namely it hangs during start up or it will not start at
  173. all, try the following:
  174.  
  175. 1) Exit Quick Bar and try running the program, if the program runs fine
  176.    after exiting Quick Bar, the in the BTQTOOLS.INI file, located in your
  177.    Windows directory, Add the Following section:
  178.  
  179.    [Exclude]
  180.    MODULENAME=Exclude
  181.  
  182.  Module Name should be the name of the program's module. For instance, if the program 
  183.  if called TEST.EXE, the Module name should most likely be TEST. So the above would read
  184.  as follows:
  185.  
  186.   [Exclude]
  187.   TEST=Exclude
  188.  
  189.  In doing this, you will see this application's Icon on your desktop rather than it being
  190.  hidden from view as the other Applications are.
