  1. MICROSOFT WORKS NETWORK INSTALLATION -- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  2.  
  3. You need to read this information if you have installed a SHARED copy
  4. of Works. See the Network Administrator's Guide for more information
  5. on what a SHARED installation is.
  6.  
  7. There are two sections in this document:
  8.  
  9. A. Setting the Works files on the server to READ-ONLY status.
  10. B. Installing a SHARED copy of Works using a private copy of
  11.    Microsoft Windows.

  15. A. Setting the Works files on the server to READ-ONLY status.
  16. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  17. In order for Works to function properly on a network, and to allow
  18. all users on the network the ability to run Works, the Works files
  19. must be READ-ONLY files. 
  20.  
  21. To set the Works files on the server to READ-ONLY status:
  22. 1. Connect to the server that contains the Works files. 
  23.    Note: You must have read/write privileges for the directory that
  24.    contains the Works files.
  25. 2. In the Microsoft Windows File Manager, change to the disk drive
  26.    containing the Works application files.
  27. 3. Open the directory containing the Works files.
  28. 4. From the File menu, choose Select All.
  29. 5. From the File menu, choose Change Attributes.
  30. 6. Choose the Read Only check box.
  31. 7. Choose the OK button.
  32. 8. Repeat steps 3-7 for the subdirectories \CLIPART and \MSWORKS.CBT
  33.    in the Works directory on the server.

  36. B. Installing a SHARED copy of Works using a private copy of
  37.    Microsoft Windows.

  39. Read this section ONLY if you were instructed by the setup program to
  40. consult this README file and do the procedures in section B. Do not 
  41. do any of the steps below unless the Setup program specifically 
  42. requested that you read section B of the README file.
  43.  
  44. The administrator setup was run using a private (non-shared) copy of
  45. Windows. Therefore, the setup program could not determine if some
  46. users will be using a shared copy of Windows or if no users will be
  47. using a shared copy of Windows. If every user will use a private copy
  48. of Windows, you're setup is now complete.
  49. If any users will use a shared copy of Windows:

  51. Run the administrator setup again, using the shared copy of Windows
  52. that some workstations are using. Note: You will need read/write
  53. privileges to the network Windows directory.

  57. Manually copy the following files:
  58.  
  59. Note: Do the following procedure ONLY when the file in the Works
  60. directory is NEWER than the corresponding file in the shared Windows
  61. directory. Be sure to rename the files as shown below. It is
  62. recommended that the shared copy of Windows should not be in use
  63. while copying these files.

  66. SHELL.DLN         -->        SHELL.DLL
  67. OLECLI.DLN        -->        OLECLI.DLL
  68. OLESVR.DLN        -->        OLESVR.DLL
