- [/SIZE:opt] is the patch to perform (opt= 1024, 2048,... or REMOVE)
- [/FORCE] force patch on unrecognized DOS format
- [/QUIET] perform patch without screen output or keyboard input

- *** SELECT PATCH SIZE ***
- DOS3 types of DOS:
- If your DOS supports a 32-megabyte maximum drive size (i.e. PCDOS
- 3.xx), choose your drive's logical sector size.
- DOS4 types of DOS:
- If your DOS supports large drives (i.e. PCDOS 4.01+), you have 2
- choices. (1)If you are only supporting the DOS 4 cartridge format
- (which can be used only under DOS4 types of DOS), choose your
- drive's physical sector size. (2)If you wish to maintain
- compatibility with DOS3 types of DOS, choose your drive's logical
- sector size.
- Refer to the documentation received with this software package if you
- are unsure of the sector sizes for your drive.

- *** COMPAQ DOS 3.31 ***
- The DOS version number indicates that COMPAQ DOS 3.31 is being used.
- If this is the case, please be sure that you have installed the
- BIGSECTOR patch (available from your authorized COMPAQ dealer).
- If you have not installed the BIGSECTOR patch, you will not be able
- to reliably use this software package. The only exception to this
- rule is the DOS4 cartridge format with a drive that has a physical
- sector size of 512 bytes.
- It is strongly recommended that you upgrade to COMPAQ DOS 4.01 or
- greater. Refer to the documentation provided with this software
- package for more information.
-

- *** Versions of DOS prior to DOS 3.10 ***
- This software package has been extensively tested
- with DOS version 3.10 and greater. Although problems
- are not expected, you should upgrade as soon as
- possible.

- [drive] The OptiStar device driver letter.
- [/PARTITIONS] The number of logical partitions to divide the drive
- into - each partition will get a unique drive letter.
- [volume] The volume label to be placed on the drive - multiple
- volumes may be specified for multiple partitions.
- [/DOS3] Use a DOS3 cartridge format.
- [/NET3] As above, but ensure a power of 2 logical sector size.
- [/DOS4] Use a DOS4 cartridge format.
- [/NOVELL] Use a Novell cartridge format (incompatible with DOS).

- *** FORMAT MAIN MENU ***
- FORMAT MEDIA: Select this option to initialize a new piece
- of media (or re-initialize previously formatted
- media).
- EXIT: Exit program.
-
- *** Select Drive To Format ***
- Select the OptiStar drive containing the media that you wish to format.
- ***** Low-Level Format *****
- The media currently in the drive requires a low-level format
- before it can be used. Depending on the drive, this can be
- a lengthy process, taking up to 40 minutes.
- *** SELECT CARTRIDGE FORMAT ***
- Compatible with all versions of DOS:
- This cartridge format can be used with any version 3.xx or 4.xx of
- PCDOS. Unless partitioning is used to produce small logical drives,
- DOS will need to be PATCHed, reducing available RAM for programs.
- For Systems That Require a Power of 2 Sector Size:
- Identical to the above format, except that the logical sector size
- is forced to be a power of 2 (512 bytes, 1k, 2k 4k, ...).
- Compatible with DOS 4.xx:
- This cartridge format can be used if your DOS supports drive partitions
- larger than 32 megabytes (i.e. PCDOS 4.01+). This format will reduce or
- eliminate the PATCH, but is incompatible with PCDOS 3.xx.
- Compatible With OptiStar for Novell Netware:
- This option is used only when preparing media for use under Netware.
- The format is incompatible with all versions of DOS.
- *** Select Number of Partitions ***
- Choose the number of logical partitions you would like
- to divide the drive into. Each partition corresponds to
- a drive letter.
- *** High-Level Format ***
- Edit Volume Labels:
- Default volume labels are assigned to each logical partition
- (e.g. VOLUME_0001, VOLUME_0002,...). Choose this option to modify
- the labels.
- Begin High-Level Format Process:
- A high-level format must be successfully completed before the
- media can be used by the OptiStar device driver. This process is
- comparable to formatting a floppy disk.
- Return to Main Menu:
- Cancel this format operation and return to the main menu.
- *** EDIT VOLUME LABELS ***
- To change any of the supplied volume labels, highlight the appropriate
- entry, and then press <ENTER>. The selected volume label will be
- presented in a window. Normal edit keys (BACKSPACE, CURSOR LEFT,...)
- can be used to make changes to the label - Pressing <ENTER> will
- accept the changes, <ESC> will cancel them.
- After all volume labels are acceptable, select "ACCEPT VOLUMES" to
- return to the previous menu.

- *** DVRSTAT MAIN MENU ***
- SHOW STATUS: Examine status of DRIVER.
- SELECT A DRIVE: Select the volume to be examined.
- EXIT: Exit program.
- *** FULL STATUS MENU ***
- GENERAL STATUS: Display the general status of the selected driver.
- SCSI FLAGS: Display SCSI flags - default and user overridden.
- DRIVER INFO: Display additional information about the driver.
- CARTRIDGE INFO: Display additional information about the cartridge
- mounted, if any.
- PARAMETER RECORD: Display the current parameter record.
- TIME STAMP: Display the current time stamp record.
- HISTORY MARKER: Display the current history marker. This option is
- not applicable to erasable drivers.
- *** Select driver ***
- Select the CorelDRIVER to be examined.
- *** UPDATE MAIN MENU ***
- CHECK CARTRIDGE: Check to see if there are any data pointer or space
- mismatch in the cartridge. A Data pointer mismatch
- is usually caused by a power failure during a write
- to the cartridge. A space mismatch is created when
- files are deleted or overwritten.
- SELECT A DRIVE: Select the cartridge to be updated.
- EXIT: Exit program.
- NOTE - The UPDATE utility is only applicable to WORM cartridges.
- *** Select a Drive ***
- Select the cartridge to be updated. Note that
- it has to be a WORM cartridge.
- *** Data Pointer Mismatch ***
- A Data Pointer Mismatch is usually caused by power failure
- during a write to a WORM cartridge. If the cartridge is not
- updated, you can still read information from the cartridge
- but you cannot write to it.
- *** Space Mismatch ***
- A space mismatch is created when a file is deleted or overwritten.
- If the cartridge is not updated, you still can write to and read
- from the cartridge as usual, but you may get WRITE PROTECTED ERROR
- during a write when the WORM cartridge is physically full, even
- though there is logical space left as seen by the operating
- system. Therefore it is recommended that the space mismatch be
- checked by the UPDATE utility frequently.
