- Installation
-
- From Windows, run the setup program on Floppy Disk 1 to install the
- files and create the Rock Rap 'N Roll program group and program icon.
-
-
- Memory and System Requirements
-
- Rock Rap 'N Roll uses a dynamic sizing mechanism to give you the most
- music power from your particular system. Six Megabytes or higher is
- recommended, however the system works in a 4 Mb environment. Systems
- with less memory may play songs from the virtual memory on disk. If
- your sound quality is choppy and you see disk activity while playing
- sounds, free up real memory by closing all other applications
- including TSRs.

- Using Rock Rap 'N Roll
-
- Rock Rap 'N Roll is a digital music machine designed to let anyone
- have fun with music. It uses pre-composed music attached to a colorful
- interface to let a user "doodle" with music. The end result can be
- loose and unstructured or can be a rich, mixed down song. To get
- started fast and understand all the features, read the Help screen.
- RR 'N R features 3 different styles of music each found in individual
- "studios." (It is normal for each studio to take about 30 seconds to
- load from the CD-ROM drive.) Each studio functions exactly the same and
- contains these elements:
-
- SONG LOOPS (on left) - click on the name of a loop to play it.
-
- SONG-A-LIZER (on bottom) - this sequences any loops together into a
- song - drag the number button of the loop you want into the
- Song-a-lizer. Drag up to ten numbers in any order then click the
- start button to listen to the song.
-
- MOUSE-KICKERS (two round objects called "Vibe-a-tron" and "Bop-o-Rama") -
- these are activated by clicking and dragging the mouse. Use the pop-up
- menus underneath each to select the sound you desire. Clicking on the
- mouse kicker will play the sound. Moving the mouse from side to side
- will play a variation of the sound.
-
- MAGIC FINGERS - there are sounds assigned to all of the letter keys on
- the bottom 2 rows of the keyboard. Just hit a key to play it. Click on the
- "Key Map" button for a listing of the key assignments for each studio.
-
- PITCH 'EM - the top two rows of the keyboard will add pitch to any
- sound you assign. Select the sound in the pop-up menu then press the
- keys to hear different pitches.
-
- VOC-A-LIZER - (two columns of squares on the right top) this contains
- pre-recorded vocals. Click on any square to play one. You can click on
- many squares in succession and the Voc-a-lizer will cue up the sounds
- and play them in the order you clicked. Use this to create singing
- effects.
-
- RECORDING SESSIONS - the button on the upper right of the screen with a
- tape recorder icon activates the session recording panel. With this you
- can record, playback, and load sessions.
-
- ADDING YOUR OWN SOUNDS - the button on the top right with a microphone
- icon activates a digital recorder. Use the microphone to record sounds.
- When you are done, click the save button on the recording panel. There is
- a menu item in each pop-up menu called "Custom Sound." Your sound will
- play when you select this item. You can have one custom sound per
- studio.
-
- NOTE: YOU MUST RECORD A SESSION AND SAVE IT TO SAVE YOUR CUSTOM SOUND
- IN THE SESSION FILE.
-
- Two Modes:
-
- REHEARSAL MODE - click on any object to hear the sound. You can drag
- loops into the Song-a-lizer, click on start and play along. In
- Rehearsal mode, you will notice volume fluctuations based on how many
- sounds you are trying to play at once. RR 'N R has a feature called
- "Magic-Mixer." When you record sessions, Magic Mixer will
- automatically compensate for the volume fluctuations and playback
- your session perfectly.
-
- SESSION MODE - when you record a session the keyboard keys will respond
- differently - you can hit keys in succession and they will interrupt the
- sound rather than waiting for the previous sound to play through. You
- must have some loops in the Song-a-lizer to record a session. To start
- recording click on the RECORD button on the recording panel. To stop,
- click on STOP. To play, click on PLAY. You can save sessions and load
- pre-recorded ones with the LOAD and SAVE buttons.
