- The most frequently encountered problem in installing your modem is related
- to hardward address and IRQ line conflict. In fact, most people are not
- sure what existing COM Port is already active, and which IRQ lines are free.
- Cheyenne Communications has taken the step to help eliminate the confusion by
- providing a new DOS utility called EZSTART.EXE. This program must be run in
- DOS without running Windows, and must be run BEFORE you install your new
- modem. So, if you already installed the modem, please remove it before
- running.
-
- In the DOS prompt, type A:\EZSTART /i [Enter]. It will give you a warning.
- Please type Y to continue. You'll see (as example):
-
- COM1: Address 03F8, UART 16450, IRQ 4.
- COM2: Address 02F8, UART 16450, IRQ 3.
- COM3: Available for internal modem.
- COM4: Available for internal modem.
-
- For external modem, you may connect the modem cable from your modem to the
- detected COM Port.
-
- For internal modem, you may configure it as:
-
- COM3 at 03E8 using IRQ 5, or IRQ 7
- COM4 at 02E8 using IRQ 5, or IRQ 7
-
- The above serves only as our recommendations. You may connect your external
- modem to one of the above detected COM ports, or if you have an Internal
- modem, set it to the recommended Address (3E8 or 2E8) with IRQ settings of 5
- or 7. If your system still have problem, you should remove other installed
- cards one by one to see which is conflicting, and make adjustments.
-
- Consult an expert if you are not familiar with the procedures.
-
- Note: We use the standard definition of COM1 (3F8), COM2 (2F8) etc. which
- may be different than that of Microsoft MSD.EXE.
