  38.  │         eXodus is now a 32-bit server for Windows NT. The install- │
  39.  │        ation disks you received contain a 16-bit version which    │
  40.  │        runs on Windows, as well as the 32-bit version for Windows │
  41.  │        NT.  During installation, eXodus determines the system you │
  42.  │        are running and installs the correct version for your PC.  │
  43.  │                                       │
  44.  │    XIE Imaging Extension                           │
  45.  │                                       │
  46.  │        The X Imaging  Extension (XIE) is included in this release.│
  47.  │          XIE enhances the standard X server image display capabili- │
  48.  │        ties by providing efficient compressed  image transport    │
  49.  │        between client and server and efficient caching of images. │
  50.  │        Image filtering and translating is performed on the server │
  51.  │        side, offloading some of the processing from the client    │
  52.  │        host to the X server.                                      │
  53.  │                                       │
  54.  │        Image data can be in the format of scanned documents, fax  │ 
  55.  │        transmissions, and photographic images. The XIE is able to │
  56.  │        decode TIFF,CCITT Group 3/4, and JPEG compression formats  │
  57.  │        directly.                           │
  58.  │                                       │
  59.  │     TrueColor Support                           │
  60.  │                                       │
  61.  │        eXodus now operates in 16-bit and 24-bit display modes. In │
  62.  │        this mode, eXodus reports 24-bit TrueColor Visuals to X    │
  63.  │        applications.                           │
  64.  │                                       │
  65.  │      Select and Copy Bitmap Graphics                       │
  66.  │                                       │
  67.  │         You can now select X graphic bitmap images and copy them   │
  68.  │        to the Windows clipboard.  The eXodus Control menu contains│ 
  69.  │        a new command, Select and Copy Graphics, to select the     │
  70.  │        rectangular region to copy to the clipboard.  For more     │
  71.  │        information on using this feature, see the "Selecting and  │
  72.  │        Copying Bitmap Graphics" section in Chapter 4 of the eXodus│ 
  73.  │        User Manual.                           │

  75.  │    Note:   In order to get the closest colors when pasting graphics to│ 
  76.  │         Microsoft Windows applications, White Pine has chosen to   │
  77.  │        only support Microsoft Windows applications that support   │
  78.  │        device independent bitmaps (for example, Microsoft Word).  │
  79.  │        White Pine's X Window System display server for Microsoft  │
  80.  │        Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups, and Windows NT.       │
