  65. INSTALLATION
  66. ------------------------
  67.  
  68. 1. In order for Freelance Plus to know which disk drive it will
  69.    receive driver files from, NEWDRIVE.EXE must first be run from
  70.    this utility disk with the path for Freelance Plus. Exit this utility
  71.    and type, for example, NEWDRIVE C:\FL.
  72. 2. Start the Freelance Plus program.
  73. 3. Select "Device and Font Setup" from the main menu.
  74. 4. Select "Install-devices" from the next set of selections.
  75. 5. Cursor down to the device number where the printer is to be
  76.    installed and press the space bar on the keyboard to list the 
  77.    available selections.
  78. 6. Cursor through the list until "HP DeskJet 1200C" is highlighted
  79.    and press <Enter> to select.
  80. 7. Cursor down to the "Done" selection and press <Enter>.
  81. 8. Select "Yes" when asked to confirm device changes shown and 
  82.    press <Enter>.
  83. 9. When asked to insert the "DJ 1200C disk", insert the utility disk in
  84.    the corresponding drive and press <Enter>. The drive letter can be
  85.    changed if necessary.
  86. 10. Quit the Setup portion of the program.
  87. 11. Select "Charts and Drawings" from the main menu.
  88. 12. Select "Print" and then "Options" in the menu.
  89. 13. With the cursor on the current device, press the space bar to display
  90.     the available devices.
  91. 14. Move the cursor bar up or down until "HP DeskJet 1200C" is highlighted.
  92. 15. Press enter to accept.
  93. 16. Press F10 to exit.

  95. Note: Additional printer memory (above the factory installed 
  96. 2mb) may be required to sucessfully print files with large 
  97. or numerous TIFFs, or files with several different fonts. 
  98. If the file does not print completely, try rescaling the 
  99. TIFFs to a smaller size, or using fewer fonts or attributes 
  100. (shadow, underline, etc.) for the fonts.

  112. Application Note (Strongly Recommended)" utility.

  125. Setting Up Harvard(tm) Graphics
  126. -------------------------------
  127.  1. Start the Harvard(tm) Graphics program.
  128.  2. From the F6-Main Menu, press 8 (Setup).
  129.  3. Press 5 (Printer 1).
  130.  4. From the Printer 1 Setup Menu press F3 (Choices).
  131.  5. Use the down arrow key to highlight one of the DeskJet 1200C drivers,
  132.     then press <Enter>.
  133.  6. Press the down arrow key to position the cursor across from "Output
  134.     Port".
  135.  7. Press F3 (Choices).
  136.  8. Use the arrow keys to select the port where your printer is connected,
  137.     then press <Enter>.
  138.  9. Press the down arrow key to position the cursor across from "Default
  139.     paper size", then press F3 (Choices).
  140. 10. Use the arrow keys to select the paper size, then press <Enter>.
  141. 11. Use the arrow keys to position the cursor across from "Use spooler".
  142. 12. Press F3 (Choices), and select "Yes".
  143.     NOTE: Setting "Use spooler" to "Yes" activates the integral spooler
  144.     and allows you to get back to Harvard Graphics sooner when printing.
  145.     With it set to "No", you'll have to wait until the print job is
  146.     nearly finished in order to continue working.  If you do not wish
  147.     to use the integral spooler, (for example, when using an external
  148.     hardware or software spooler) set "Use spooler" to "No".
  149. 13. Use the arrow keys to position the cursor across from "Quality".
  150. 14. Press F3 (Choices).
  151. 15. Select one of the following "Quality" options, then press <Enter>.
  152.     High:    Presentation/best quality.
  153.     Medium:  Normal/medium quality (faster printing than "High").
  154.     Draft:   Use to "proof" your work before printing a final copy.
  155. 16. Press <Enter>.
  156. 17. Press 1 (Program Defaults).
  157. 18. Using the arrow keys, move the cursor down to the bottom of the
  158.     screen across from "Max. spooler size (K):".
  159. 19. Type 3072 as the spooler size, then press <Enter>.
  160.     NOTE: This sets the spooler size to approximately 3Mb.  Since Harvard
  161.     Graphics creates this 3Mb file on your hard disk, make sure that you
  162.     have enough disk space to accommodate it.  Lowering the spooler size
  163.     will increase the time it will take to free up your PC while printing.
  164.     If you are using an external spooler (hardware or software solution),
  165.     set the "Use spooler" option to "No" in the Printer Setup Menus.
  166. 20. Press the Esc key.
  167.  
  168. Printing from Harvard(tm) Graphics 3.05
  169. --------------------------------------
  170.  1. From the F6-Main Menu press 5 (Output).
  171.  2. Press 1 (Printer 1).
  172.  3. Check to see if all of the printing information is correct, then
  173.     press F10-Continue to print.

  175. Miscellaneous Notes

  177. If white colored areas of your chart are printed black (reversed B&W), you
  178. may need to make the following change to your printer setup configuration;
  179.  1. From the F6-Main Menu press 8 (Setup).

  181.  3. From the Printer 1 Setup Menu select F8 (Options).

  193. Using the Lotus(R) INSTALL Program
  194. ----------------------------------
  195. This HP DeskJet 1200C printer driver is used to create output from the
  196. Wysiwyg (:Print) publishing environment of 1-2-3 for DOS.  A seperate
  197. text driver on this disk is available to support 1-2-3 native-mode 
  198. (/Print).
  199.  
  200. Lotus' WYSIWYG driver for the HP DeskJet 1200C printer has been enhanced 
  201. to support PCL5 and HP-GL/2 to take advantage of internal scalable fonts
  202. and vector graphics drawing for superior performance.  Lotus and HP have
  203. worked closely together to ensure that as many of the new capabilities 
  204. of the HP DeskJet 1200C printer as possible are supported by 1-2-3 for DOS.

  218. INSTALLATION NOTES:

  221. 1-2-3 for DOS Release 2.3 Network Edition users:
  222.  
  223. If you are a network administrator and need to update the 1-2-3 for DOS 
  224. Release 2.3 Network Edition, you will require the Lotus 2.3 Network Edition
  225. update disk.  This update is available electronically via CompuServe in the
  226. Hewlett-Packard peripherals forum, from Hewlett-Packard Distribution
  227. at (303) 353-7650, or Lotus Development Corporation.
  228. ============================================================================
  229.  
  230. Before proceeding with the update, please make sure there is at least 1.3
  231. megabytes of hard disk space available on the disk containing your 1-2-3
  232. program.  This amount of disk space is required temporarily to allow the
  233. update to create copies of the files that will be modified.  This is done
  234. to insure that the integrity of all files being affected remain intact
  235. during the update procedure.
  236.  
  237. To perform the update procedure, you must complete these instructions:
  238.  
  239. 1. Insert the disk in drive A: (or B:)
  240.  
  241. 2. At the operating system prompt, type A: (or B:) and press ENTER to make
  242.    A: (or B:) the current drive.
  243.  
  244. 3. At the prompt, type UPDATE followed by a space and the path of your
  245.    Release 2.3 or 2.4 directory, and then press ENTER.  For example, if
  246.    you have Release 2.4 and your directory is C:\123R24, you would type
  247.    UPDATE C:\123R24 and then press ENTER.  When the update is complete,
  248.    the following message appears: "1-2-3 Update files have been installed.
  249.    To take advantage of the new printer drivers, you must now run the
  250.    1-2-3 Install program."
  251.  
  252. 4. You must now run the Install program. Follow the instructions in chapter
  253.    4 of Getting Started (if you have Release 2.3) or chapter 5 of Getting
  254.    Started (if you have Release 2.4) to start Install or use the following
  255.    general procedure:
  256.  
  257.    1. Select "Change Selected Equipment".
  258.    2. Select "Add New Drivers to the Library".
  259.    3. Insert the Driver Disk into a floppy drive.
  260.    4. Type the name of the floppy drive when prompted by the Lotus INSTALL
  261.       program (e.g., A or B).
  262.    5. Select "Modify the Current Driver Set".
  263.    6. Select "Graphics Printer", "HP", then "DeskJet 1200C Extended 
  264.       Capabilities".
  265.    7. Select "Text Printer", "HP", then "DeskJet 1200C"
  266.    8. Select "Return to Previous Menu".
  267.    9. Select "Save the Current Driver Set", then <Enter> to accept the
  268.       default 123 file name.
  269.   10. Press <Enter> at the "GENERATING FONTS" screen.
  270.        Note: If you have multiple driver sets, you must recreate each
  271.        driver set using Select Your Equipment.
  272.   11. Highlight "Extended" and press <Enter> to generate the fonts.
  273.   12. Make sure you select "Yes" when prompted with "Do you want to 
  274.       generate font sizes now?".
  275.   13. Press any key to end the Lotus INSTALL program.
  276.  
  277. Note: WYSIWYG drivers such as the "DeskJet 1200C Extended Capabilities"
  278. allow easy access to advanced features such as color and scalable
  279. fonts thereby providing the best overall printing solution. A native
  280. mode text driver is available, but requires the use of setup strings to
  281. access advanced features. This driver defaults to black text only.
  282. These setup strings are not necessary for WYSIWYG drivers.
  283.  
  284.  
  285. Setting Up WYSIWYG 
  286. ------------------
  287.  In general, you should do the following;
  288.    1. Select :, Print, Config, Printer  ...then use the arrow keys to 
  289.       select "HP DeskJet 1200C Extended Capabilities" as the printer 
  290.       and media type.
  291.    2. Press <Enter>.
  292.    3. Select Interface  ...then use the arrow keys to select the port where
  293.       your printer is connected  ...then press <Enter>.
  294.    4. Select Bin, then Single-Sheet.
  295.    5. Press <Enter>.
  296.    6. Select the Orientation (Portrait or Landscape) ...then press <Enter>.
  297.    7. Select Quit twice to return to your spreadsheet.

  299. Printing From WYSIWYG
  300. --------------------- 
  301. The following steps assume that the WYSIWYG add-in program is loaded.
  302.    1. Select ":" to access the WYSIWYG command line.
  303.    2. Select Print, Range, Set ...to select the cells you want to print.
  304.    3. Select Go  ...to print.
  305.

  308. APPLICATION NOTES:
  309.  
  310. 1-2-3 for DOS will automatically use internal scalable typefaces resident
  311. in your printer when you select to use the "HP DeskJet 1200C Extended 
  312. Capabilities" driver in Wysiwyg, the publishing environment which is 
  313. part of 1-2-3 for DOS.
  314.  
  315. If you have a 1-2-3 spreadsheet which you would like to try printing with
  316. your new HP DeskJet 1200C printer driver, just /File Retreive it.  Make
  317. sure that you select the appropriate driver and interface through Wysiwyg's
  318. :Print menu or through the :Print dialog box.  Then choose :Print Range 
  319. Set, and when your HP DeskJet 1200C printer is ready, choose :Print Go.
  320.  
  321. Refer to your 1-2-3 User's Guide if you need more information on printing
  322. with 1-2-3's Wysiwyg or the :Print menu(s).

  324. The following fonts in 1-2-3's Wysiwyg display will automatically map to
  325. your HP DeskJet 1200C printer:

  327. Swiss => Univers     Dutch => CG Times     Courier => Courier
  328.  
  329. Additionally, you can select the HP DeskJet 1200C printer fonts by name
  330. through the Wysiwyg menu :Format Font Replace (1-8) Other.

  333.   Select a printer font
  334.   Specify the point size
  335.  
  336. Please keep in mind that 1-2-3's Wysiwyg display can not show you the
  337. actual font available in your printer.  Moreover, you may notice that 
  338. the spacing between characters changes on screen when you've selected
  339. to use a font available in your HP DeskJet 1200C printer.  This is 
  340. done to indicate the width of characters as they will appear on your
  341. printed output.

  393. Release Note: The drivers for Releases 3.1, 3.1+, and 3.4 contained
  394. on this disk can not utilize the resident scalable PCL5 fonts 
  395. available on the DeskJet 1200C printer. This driver only utilizes
  396. the Bitstream soft fonts and fonts available from within your 1-2-3
  397. for DOS package. Lotus and HP are working together to try to take
  398. advantage of more advanced features of the DeskJet 1200C 
  399. in the future.

  401. Using the Installation Utility
  402. -------------------------------
  403. Use the installation utility, "INSTDRV.BAT and 123FNTS.EXE",contained
  404. on this disk to copy the necessary files to the 1-2-3 directory on 
  405. your hard disk.
  406.  1.  Insert this diskette into a floppy drive.
  407.  2.  From the DOS prompt on your floppy drive (e.g., A: or B:), run 
  408.      INSTDRV.BAT by typing INSTDRV followed by the full path name of
  409.      your 1-2-3 subdirectory and the name of your default drive
  410.      (the floppy drive where this disk is inserted).
  411.      For example;  INSTDRV C:\123R31 B:  ...then <Enter>.
  412.  3.  Next, run 123FNTS.EXE by typing 123FNTS followed by the full 
  413.      path name of your 1-2-3 subdirectory. For example;  
  414.      123FNTS C:\123R31 ...then <Enter>.
  415.  
  416. Using the Lotus(R) Install Program
  417. ----------------------------------
  418.  1.  From the 1-2-3 directory on your hard disk type INSTALL, then <Enter>.
  419.      NOTE: Make sure you have copied the Wysiwyg program to your hard
  420.      disk during the 1-2-3 installation.  The following procedures will
  421.      vary slightly if you have not yet completed the Lotus Install pro-
  422.      gram's "First-Time Installation".  We recommend that you complete
  423.      the First-Time Installation without installing printers, then follow
  424.      the steps below to modify your installation for the DeskJet 1200C.
  425.  2.  Highlight "Change Selected Equipment" ...then press <Enter>.
  426.  3.  Highlight "Modify Current DCF" (Device Config. File)
  427.      ...then press <Enter>.
  428.  4.  Highlight "Change Selected Printer" ...then press <Enter>.
  429.  5.  Highlight "HP" ...then press <Enter>.
  430.  6.  Press the up arrow to select the "DeskJet 1200C" printer, then
  431.      press <Enter>.
  432.  7.  Press <Enter> (to Return to Menu).
  433.  8.  Highlight "Save Changes" ...then press <Enter>.
  434.  9.  Press <Enter> to accept the changes you've made and save them to the
  435.      default 123.DCF file.  NOTE:  Do not add the ".DCF" extension to the
  436.      file name.
  437. 10.  At this point in the installation you may need to have your 1-2-3
  438.      master disks available. Type the letter for the floppy disk drive
  439.      you'll be using ...then press <Enter>.
  440. 11.  In the "Generating Fonts" opening screen press <Enter> to continue.
  441. 12.  Highlight one of the font options ...then press <Enter>.
  442. 13.  Highlight "Yes" ...then press <Enter>.
  443. 14.  Press any key to complete the installation.

  445. Setting Up 1-2-3 & Printing from Wysiwyg
  446. ----------------------------------------
  447. The following steps assume that the Wysiwyg add-in program is loaded.

  459. Printed colors may not match those selected from the WYSIWYG color graphics
  460. palette. Even though WYSIWYG allows a selection of up to 224 colors in
  461. graphics edit mode, or 16 text colors, only a subset of those can actually
  462. be printed from the application.
