- LICENSE AGREEMENTS AND NETWORKS
-
- See the license agreement included with the ATM for WordPerfect
- package for a complete list of your rights and limitations
- regarding the use of this software. You must purchase a separate
- copy of ATM for WordPerfect for every person who uses the ATM for
- WordPerfect program. The Type 1 fonts included with the ATM for
- WordPerfect program are licensed for a single printer. You must
- purchase a multi-printer license to use them with two or more
- printers. If you have questions regarding this license, or would
- like information about a multi-printer license, contact your
- authorized Adobe reseller.
-
-
-
- FOUR WAYS YOU CAN USE ATM FOR WORDPERFECT WITH A NETWORK
-
- The following four scenarios illustrate common ways to use ATM for
- WordPerfect and WordPerfect in a network environment.
-
-
- Locate and Use Type 1 Font Files on the Server
-
- If you are short on disk space on your own hard disk, you might
- want to install ATM for WordPerfect's 20 Adobe Type 1 font files
- on the server. The font files require 1.6 megabytes (MB) of local
- hard disk space. Placing the font files on the server also allows
- other ATM for WordPerfect users on your network to share the
- fonts.
-
-
- Use ATM for WordPerfect with a Network Version of WordPerfect or
- Windows
-
- ATM for WordPerfect supports network versions of WordPerfect and
- Windows simply and automatically. However, if you use a network
- version of WordPerfect, we recommend that you seek the permission
- and/or assistance of the network administrator before you install
- ATM for WordPerfect.
-
- NOTE: ATM for Windows does not work on a network. Both the ATM for
- Windows program and the Type 1 fonts it uses must be on a local
- hard drive to ensure correct operation.
-
-
- Install One Copy of ATM for WordPerfect for All Network Users
-
- You may find it desirable to share one network installation of ATM
- for WordPerfect among all users. This setup requires every user to
- use the same network drive names and paths for the same drives.
- Your network administrator has to ensure that all users have the
- same network drive setup.
-
-
- Use a Network Printer
-
- ATM for WordPerfect supports printing to network print spoolers,
- as well as printing directly to Novell print queues.
-
-
-
- INSTALLING FOR NETWORKS
-
- The procedure for network installation is similar to the standard
- installation procedure described in Chapter 1 of the ATM for
- WordPerfect User Guide. However, to perform a network
- installation, you use the ATINSTAL command with the /N option.
-
- Follow these steps to begin the installation process for a
- network:
-
- 1. Insert the ATM for WordPerfect program disk into your floppy
- disk drive.
-
- 2. Type
-
- ATINSTAL /N
-
- and press Enter. The ATM for WordPerfect installer welcome
- screen appears. Press Enter to begin installation.
-
- When you run ATINSTAL with the /N parameter, you must be prepared
- to specify
-
- * The location of files (on the server or your hard disk), and
- * The destination of your printer output
-
-
-
- DETERMINING THE LOCATION OF FILES
-
- ATM for WordPerfect allows you to install files on your local hard
- drive or the network server. This section describes the different
- types of files and provides instructions for locating the files on
- a network server. We suggest that you write down the directories
- you select as you install ATM for WordPerfect. Knowing the
- directory names is helpful if you ever wish to change your
- configuration.
-
-
- Type 1 Font File Directory
-
- During installation, you will be asked where to put the Type 1
- font files. The default location is C:\PSFONTS, but you can put
- the font files anywhere. ATM for WordPerfect makes it easy to
- share Type 1 font files on a network. The advantage of placing the
- font files on the network server is that it relieves your local
- hard disk of 1.6 megabytes (MB) of files and other users can share
- the same fonts.
-
-
- WordPerfect Program Location
-
- During installation, you will be asked where WordPerfect is
- located and if you share a copy of WordPerfect with other network
- users. If you use a shared (network) copy of WordPerfect, you will
- be asked a few more questions. Depending on your installation, you
- may be asked to confirm the following settings:
-
- * WordPerfect version number: ATM for WordPerfect supports both
- version 5.0 and 5.1. Confirm your version number, or enter the
- correct version number if the version shown is wrong.
-
- * WordPerfect Program Name: This is the command that ATM for
- WordPerfect uses to start WordPerfect (for example,
- C:\WP51\WP.EXE for DOS or C:\WPWIN\WPWIN.EXE for Windows).
-
- * WordPerfect Macro Directory: The location of WordPerfect macros.
- This is the directory to which your ATM for WordPerfect Quick
- Keys keyboard file will be copied.
-
- * WordPerfect Printer Directory: The location of your WordPerfect
- printer drivers. If you are not sure where your WordPerfect
- printer files are located, you may want to quit ATINSTAL (press
- Ctrl-Break) and run WordPerfect to find out.
-
- * WPWIN Directory: The location of your WordPerfect for Windows
- directory. The correct directory contains your WPWIN.EXE file
- and your WPCPRINT.DRV file (among others).
-
- * WPWIN printer directory: the location of your WordPerfect for
- Windows printer driver files. This location can be the same as
- your WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS printer driver location. In fact,
- to simplify matters we recommend that you share one printer
- driver directory among all 5.1 version WordPerfect products
- you use.
-
- NOTE: Installing ATM for WordPerfect will not modify or change any
- of your existing WordPerfect files. It will just copy the
- appropriate ATM for WordPerfect files into the directory locations
- you specify.
-
-
- ATM for WordPerfect Program Location
-
- If you are installing for a network copy of WordPerfect, you will
- be asked to specify a directory for ATM for WordPerfect. This
- directory contains the ATM for WordPerfect installation and
- executable program files and the ATM for WordPerfect configuration
- file. Each user can have a private ATM for WordPerfect program
- directory, or you can allow all network users to share one ATM for
- WordPerfect directory. If you want all users to share the same ATM
- for WordPerfect program files and configuration, it is often
- convenient to simply locate the ATM for WordPerfect files in the
- same directory as your WordPerfect program files. (See "Network
- Setup Options" later in this Readme file for other suggestions.)
-
- NOTE: If all users share one set of ATM for WordPerfect program
- and configuration files, you must ensure that the path names to
- the printer driver files, Type 1 font files, and WordPerfect are
- identical for all users. For example, if the path to the network
- Type 1 font files is O:\PSFONTS from one user's PC, it must the
- same path for all network users.
-
-
-
- PRINTER OPTIONS
-
- You can set up ATM for WordPerfect to print to
-
- * A network printer
- * A printer attached to your own PC
- * Both a network printer and a local printer--ATM for WordPerfect
- can monitor up to three different ports for output and route the
- output to any combination of local and network printers. (See
- "Printer Port Mapping" later in this Readme file for details.)
-
- The ATM for WordPerfect installer adds only one printer. To
- install additional printers, you use the ATM for WordPerfect
- reinstallation program as described in Chapter 2 of the ATM for
- WordPerfect User Guide. If you want to install one or more network
- printers, you should install a network printer when you first run
- ATINSTAL from floppy disk.
-
- In any event, you'll be asked which type of printer you use. If
- you use a LaserJet printer, you'll also be asked whether the
- printer is
-
- * Connected directly to your computer
- * Shared via an A/B switch box or printer sharing device
- * Shared via the network
-
- You are then asked to identify the printer port WordPerfect to
- which WordPerfect prints. Your choices are LPT1-LPT4, COM1-COM4,
- or Novell queue.
-
- If you want to print to a local printer, there's nothing special
- to do--just select the port to which the printer is attached.
-
- If you want to print to a network printer, select the LPT or COM
- port that your network spooler captures for the network printer.
-
- Novell users of WordPerfect for DOS have the additional option of
- selecting Novell queue from the list of available ports. Select
- the Novell queue ONLY if your WordPerfect for DOS product is
- configured to print directly to a Novell print queue (rather than
- to print to a captured LPT port).
-
-
- Using Multiple Printers
-
- If you want to use more than one printer, such as a network laser
- printer and a local dot-matrix printer, install the network
- printer when you first run ATINSTAL /N from the floppy disks. Add
- additional printer drivers by running ATINSTAL from your hard
- disk. See Chapter 2 of the ATM for WordPerfect Users Guide for
- instructions.
-
-
- Printer Port Mapping
-
- It is important in a network that ATM for WordPerfect be
- configured to monitor the correct printer ports. This could be to
- print locally to a network printer via a network spooler port or
- directly to a Novell queue. If you have selected the port
- incorrectly when ATM for WordPerfect was originally installed, or
- you want to have ATM for WordPerfect monitor an additional port,
- Printer Port Mapping is used.
-
- You can change the printer port mapping with the ATM for
- WordPerfect advanced reinstallation options. See the Readme file
- ADVANCED.TXT for instructions on how to use the advanced
- reinstallation options.
-
-
-
- NETWORK SETUP OPTIONS
-
- Setting up ATM for WordPerfect to work with WordPerfect or Windows
- in a network environment requires that you make many choices about
- how ATM for WordPerfect is installed.
-
- The main choice is whether ATM for WordPerfect should be installed
- just once and shared by all users or installed separately for each
- user.
-
- You can copy the ATM for WordPerfect diskette(s) onto a drive on
- the server and run ATINSTAL from there--it's very fast. Also, when
- ATINSTAL finds that a file already exists, it verifies the version
- of the file and, if the version is current, it does not copy it
- over again.
-
-
- Program Locations
-
- Is WordPerfect for DOS, WordPerfect for Windows, and/or Windows
- shared? The answers to these questions affect the way you install
- ATM for WordPerfect.
-
- * WPDOS--For WordPerfect for DOS, it's simple. If it's shared and
- the drives are mapped the same, install ATM for WordPerfect
- once. If WPDOS is installed locally on each PC, install
- ATM for WordPerfect for each PC.
-
- * WPWIN--ATM for WordPerfect edits the WIN.INI file by adding the
- LTOOLS command to the load= line in the [Windows] section. It is
- very rare that all network users share the same WIN.INI file. If
- you happen to be set up this way so both WPWIN and Windows are
- being shared AND everyone is using the same WIN.INI file, you
- can install ATM for WordPerfect only once. If you're set up the
- more common way, with individual WIN.INI files for all your
- users, then install ATM for WordPerfect for each user.
-
-
- Installing a Single Copy of ATM for WordPerfect
-
- If network users share a copy of WordPerfect and network drives
- are assigned the same drive letters for all users, you can install
- a single copy of ATM for WordPerfect for all users. With this
- configuration, all users share the same printer drivers. The
- directory locations are saved in the ATM for WordPerfect
- configuration file ATWP.CFG. When you install a single copy of ATM
- for WordPerfect, all users share the same ATWP.CFG configuration
- file.
-
- If one or more users cannot share the same network drive
- designations, install individual copies of ATM for WordPerfect on
- their PCs.
-
-
-
- NETWORK PRIVILEGES REQUIRED TO INSTALL AND RUN ATM FOR WORDPERFECT
-
- You will need the following privileges to install and run the ATM
- for WordPerfect software:
-
- ATM for WordPerfect Program
- * Install: Read, Write, Subdirectory creation
- * Run time: Read, (Write when you rerun ATINSTAL to make changes)
-
- ATM for WordPerfect Printer Drivers
- * Install: Read, Write
- * Run time: Read, (Write when you edit a printer driver)
-
- Type 1 Font Files
- * Install: Read, Write, Subdirectory creation
- * Run time: Read
-
- Type Sample Document Files
- * Install: Read, Write
- * Run time: Read, (Write to save changes)
-
- See your network administrator for assistance in obtaining the
- required privileges.
-
-
-
- COMPLETING NETWORK INSTALLATION
-
- We've now covered the aspects of network installation that differ
- from standard installation. After you finish installing ATM for
- WordPerfect with ATINSTAL /N, the next step is to update the
- printer driver from within WordPerfect. See Chapter 1 of the ATM
- for WordPerfect User Guide for instructions.
-
- NOTE: After you have selected your new ATM for WordPerfect printer
- driver from within WordPerfect, double-check WordPerfect's printer
- port setting. By default, WordPerfect will set a new printer
- driver's port to be LPT1. If your network captures from any port
- other than LPT1, or if you print directly to a Novell queue, you
- will need to change WordPerfect's printer port to the correct
- setting.
-
-
-
- NETWORK INSTALLATION EXAMPLES
-
- This section describes three network installation examples:
-
- * A shared copy of WordPerfect for DOS on a Novell network
- * Shared copies of WordPerfect for DOS, Windows, and WordPerfect
- for Windows on an MS-Net network
- * A shared copy of WordPerfect for Windows on a Novell network
-
-
- Example 1: Novell Network; WPDOS Only
-
- Karen administers a Novell network with 30 users. She is
- installing ATM for WordPerfect for WPDOS, which is shared by all
- the users on the network. All the directories are mapped to the
- same drive letters for all users:
-
- WPDOS: O:\APPS\WP51
- WP Printer Drivers: O:\APPS\WP51\PRS
-
- Karen installs ATM for WordPerfect just once (opening only one of
- the 30 copies she purchased). She starts the installation program
- by typing ATINSTAL /N and puts the PostScript language Type 1 font
- files in the O:\APPS\PSFONTS directory. She decides to keep the
- network well organized by placing the ATM for WordPerfect files in
- a separate directory, choosing the default: O:\APPS\ATWP.
-
- Network users either print to a network laser printer with WP set
- to print to the Novell queue or print to a local dot-matrix
- printer attached directly to their computer. The first time Karen
- installs, she selects the shared laser printer, specifying Novell
- queue as the printer port. After completing the first-time
- installation, she does a reinstallation by running ATINSTAL from
- the hard drive and installs the dot-matrix ATM for WordPerfect
- printer driver. She configures it as connected directly to the PC
- on LPT1. Her last step is to change the menu to start WordPerfect
- with the ATWP command instead of WP.
-
-
- Example 2: MS-Net Network; WPDOS and WPWIN
-
- Sandra runs an MS-Net network with 10 users. She wants to install
- ATM for WordPerfect for shared copies of WPDOS, WPWIN, and
- Windows. All the users have their own WIN.INI files on their local
- hard drives. Sandra decides she needs to install ATM for
- WordPerfect for each user. First, she copies the contents of the
- ATM for WordPerfect distribution disks into a temporary directory
- on a network drive. Then she runs ATINSTAL /N from each person's
- PC (and gives every person an ATM for WordPerfect box with the
- manual, since she purchased 10 copies.) After selecting to install
- ATM for WordPerfect for both WPDOS and WPWIN, she sets up ATM for
- WordPerfect to use the following directories:
-
- Windows .INI: C:\WINFILE
- Windows .EXE files: O:\APPS\WINDOWS
- DOS WordPerfect: O:\APPS\WP51
- Type 1 fonts: O:\APPS\PSFONTS
-
- Sandra places the ATM for WordPerfect program files in a \ATWP
- directory on each person's local hard drive. Everyone is sharing a
- laser printer on the network and doing Net Use on LPT2 for this
- printer. She chooses Shared Via the Network with LPT2 as the
- printer port. There are two people with dot-matrix printers on
- their local LPT1 ports, so she runs ATINSTAL from the \ATWP
- directory from each of these PCs and installs their dot-matrix
- printer drivers. She specifies Connected Direct to LPT1. She sets
- everyone's WP for Windows directory locations to look for printer
- drivers in the DOS WordPerfect directory so they will use the same
- ATM for WordPerfect drivers whether it's WPWIN or WPDOS. She then
- changes the menu for WPDOS to execute ATWP instead of WP, but
- doesn't need to for Windows because ATM for WordPerfect loads
- automatically when Windows loads.
-
-
- Example 3: Novell Network; WPWIN Only
-
- Nadia has 20 users on a Novell network. They are sharing only
- WPWIN. Nobody is using WPDOS. Windows is located on each PC's hard
- drive. There are numerous printers shared via the network, and
- they are locally attached. She needs to install ATM for
- WordPerfect on each PC because Windows is not shared, but the Type
- 1 font files can still be shared. After copying the contents of
- the ATM for WordPerfect disks to a directory on a network drive,
- she does a network installation of ATM for WordPerfect (with
- ATINSTAL /N) from each PC. She sets up ATM for WordPerfect to use
- the following directories:
-
- Windows .INI files: C:\WINDOWS
- Windows .EXE files: C:\WINDOWS
- WPWIN: O:\APPS\WPWIN
- Type 1 fonts: O:\APPS\PSFONTS
- WP Printer Drivers: O:\APPS\WPWIN
- ATM for WordPerfect: C:\ATWP
-
- She selects the printer most commonly used on the network for the
- first installation and selects shared via the network with LPT2 as
- the port (they are capturing LPT2 to this printer's queue). Then,
- each time she runs ATINSTAL for the individual PCs, she selects
- the driver for the local printer they have attached, with LPT1 as
- the port.
-
- Some of the PCs are capturing LPT3 for a network printer, so Nadia
- runs ATINSTAL /A (advanced reinstallation) and edits the Printer
- Port Mapping. She selects LPT3 and sets it as Device driver
- (network). She now has ATM for WordPerfect monitoring three ports,
- LPT1 (local), LPT2 (network), and LPT3 (network).
-
-
-
- TROUBLESHOOTING NETWORK PROBLEMS
-
- This section provides advice for solving network-related problems.
- See Appendix A of the ATM for WordPerfect User Guide for advice
- about solving general problems.
-
-
- PROBLEM
- The ATM for WordPerfect printer drivers do not appear in the list
- of additional printers in WordPerfect.
-
- SOLUTION
- You did not specify the correct directory for WordPerfect and/or
- WordPerfect's printer driver files when you installed ATM for
- WordPerfect. Find out the correct directory(ies) from your network
- administrator and reinstall ATM for WordPerfect from the master
- floppy disks.
-
-
- PROBLEM
- You installed Type 1 font files on the server and when you try to
- print you receive an error message saying, "File in use during
- open a file" or "File sharing violation" or a similar error
- message.
-
- SOLUTION
- You don't have authorization to use the font files. You may need
- assistance from your network administrator to correct this
- problem. Flag all Type 1 font files so that they have Read-only,
- Sharable attributes. The Sharable attribute should be set at the
- network level.
-
-
- PROBLEM
- ATWP will not load because of insufficient memory.
-
- SOLUTION
- Your PC does not have enough conventional memory after loading
- ATWP to load WP. Type MEM or CHKDSK C: to find how much
- conventional memory you have free before loading ATWP. You should
- have a minimum of 533 KB free.
-
- You can increase the amount of conventional memory with any of the
- following techniques:
-
- * Use a memory manager such as QEMM, 386Max, or DOS 5.0's
- HIMEM.SYS to load device drivers in high memory above the 640 KB
- memory area.
-
- * If you have a 386 processor, you can use the DOS 5 program
- EMM386.EXE to create expanded (EMS) memory that ATM for
- WordPerfect can use.
-
- * Reduce the amount of conventional memory used by
- Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) programs. TSR programs are
- usually started with commands in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
-
- * Purchase more memory for your PC.
-
-
- PROBLEM
- Your Type 1 fonts disappear from the Base Font menu.
-
- SOLUTION
- Someone else may have loaded ATM for WordPerfect in the same
- Printer File directory and overwritten your printer driver without
- properly configuring it. Select the ATM for WordPerfect driver and
- re-enable the fonts from the Select Printer, Cartridges and Fonts
- menu. (See Chapter 1 of the ATM for WordPerfect User Guide for
- instructions.)
-
-
- PROBLEM
- You are using an older version of Novell Netware (prior to version
- 3.11) and the Type 1 fonts do not print correctly.
-
- SOLUTION
- ATM for WordPerfect prints to the queue name rather than to a
- printer number. Older versions of Novell Netware may be set up to
- use printer numbers. You can check whether WordPerfect is set to
- output to a printer number by pressing Shift-F7 (for Print), S
- (for Select), E (for Edit), and noting which port is currently
- specified. If the port is a single number (0 or 1, for example),
- you are set to output to a printer number and you need to change
- the port setting.
-
- To resolve this, do one of the following:
-
- * For Netware versions 2.1 and above, press O (Other) to change
- the port to the Novell queue name (such as PRINTQ_0).
-
- * For Netware versions prior to 2.1, you need to use the Netware
- Spool command to associate LPT1 (or another port) with the
- printer queue to which you are printing. Then, run ATINSTAL /A
- (from the hard drive) and select Printer Port Mapping from the
- main menu. From the Printer Port Mapping screen, select LPT1 (or
- the port you're using) and press Enter. Highlight DOS device
- driver (network) and press Enter. Press F10 to exit the Printer
- Port Mapping screen and quit ATINSTAL. Finally, run ATWP and set
- up WordPerfect to print to the new port by pressing Shift-F7
- (for Print), S (for Select Printer), E ( for Edit), P (for
- Port).
-
-
- PROBLEM
- You are connected to a Novell network, you installed ATM for
- WordPerfect, and you added the printer driver to WordPerfect for
- DOS, but when you print, the Type 1 fonts do not print correctly.
-
- SOLUTION
- You may have chosen "Novell queue" as the printer port for ATM for
- WordPerfect, but WordPerfect is set up to print to your captured
- port (LPT1-LPT3). See "Printer Port Mapping" earlier in this
- Readme file for instructions on how to set ATM for WordPerfect to
- monitor the correct port.
-
-
- PROBLEM
- ATM for WordPerfect is installed correctly, and you know you are
- printing to the correct port, but Type 1 fonts still do not print
- correctly.
-
- SOLUTION
- If you are running WordPerfect for DOS from a menu such as
- WordPerfect Office, you need to change the command to run
- WordPerfect from WP to ATWP. This will load ATM for WordPerfect
- and then load WordPerfect.
-
-
- PROBLEM
- Only one person needs to run ATM for WordPerfect, but that person
- executes WordPerfect for DOS from the same menu as other users.
-
- SOLUTION
- Run ATM for WordPerfect as a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR
- program. To run ATM for WordPerfect as a TSR, add the command ATWP
- /ATTSR to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Using this technique, ATM for
- WordPerfect loads when the AUTOEXEC.BAT executes, and WordPerfect
- can be run with the standard WP command.
-
-
- PROBLEM
- Network users have separate copies of Windows on their PCs, but
- they share a single copy of WordPerfect for Windows on a network
- server. After installing ATM for WordPerfect for one person, your
- find that when other people print from WPWIN, they get the message
- "Can't find GDX.DLL."
-
- SOLUTION
- When ATM for WordPerfect is installed for WordPerfect for Windows,
- it tells WordPerfect to look for GDX.DLL when it prints. Because
- Windows is on each PC, the shared WPWIN can't find this file. Copy
- the GDX.DLL file from the Windows directory on the PC you just
- installed to a directory on the server that is in the search path
- for all network users.
-
-
