- INSTALLATION NOTES
- ==================
-
- INSTALL and ATINSTAL
- --------------------
- Two separate installation programs are included with ATM for
- WordPerfect. If you have 3.5" disks they are both on Disk #1. If
- you have 5.25" disks ATINSTAL is on Disk #1, INSTALL is on Disk
- #3. ATINSTAL is the installation program for ATM for WordPerfect
- and is run from DOS. INSTALL is the installation program for ATM
- for Windows and is run from Windows. You must install ATM for
- WordPerfect using ATINSTAL before you install ATM for Windows
- using INSTALL since the font files necessary ATM for Windows are
- put on your hard disk during the installation of ATM for
- WordPerfect.
-
- There are also 5 readme files. ATREAD.ME is the general ATM for
- WordPerfect readme file (the file you are reading now.)
- README.TXT is the ATM for Windows readme file. ADVANCED.TXT and
- ADVANCE2.TXT provide instructions for using advanced features and
- give technical notes for ATM for WP. NETWORK.TXT provides network
- information.
-
- PostScript Printers
- -------------------
- Some changes have been made to ATINSTAL since the ATM User Guide
- was printed. Use the information below to supplement the
- information in Chapter 2.
-
- o You can install the typefaces into only 1 PostScript printer
- during each ATINSTAL session. To install Type 1 typefaces to
- additional WordPerfect PostScript printer drivers, after ATM's
- initial install, simply run ATINSTAL from your hard disk and
- choose "Install another ATM printer into WordPerfect." You can
- do this as often as you like, until the typefaces have been
- added to all the WordPerfect PostScript printer drivers you
- use.
-
- o If you want to install Type 1 typefaces to both your WP for
- DOS and WP for Windows PostScript .ALL files, you MUST share
- printer drivers (see page 18 of the ATM User Guide,
- "Installing Type 1 fonts for PostScript printers"), since ATM
- is unable to add typefaces to 2 WordPerfect PostScript .ALL
- files.
-
- o When first running ATINSTAL, ATM will add only 7 of the 20 ATM
- for WP typefaces. The other 13 are already resident in your
- PostScript printer. The typefaces that will be added are:
-
- Adobe Garamond Lithos Bold
- Adobe Garamond Italic Bellevue
- Franklin Gothic Condensed Bodoni Poster Italic
- Rockwell Bold
-
- You can change this list.
-
- ATM also updates its own .ALL files, as well as your
- PostScript .ALL file, so that if an ATM printer driver is
- installed later, the typefaces will match those in your
- PostScript printer driver.
-
- o If you are using WordPerfect 5.0 and a PostScript printer
- that can accept downloaded Adobe Type 1 typefaces, but it
- doesn't show up on ATINSTAL's menu of PostScript printers the
- following is most likely the problem.
-
- Early versions of WordPerfect 5.0 sometimes used a "Soft Font
- Format Type" or "Other" for PostScript printers in their .ALL
- file definitions. ATM will not see this entry as a valid
- PostScript printer and will not present it as an option in
- ATINSTAL.
-
- To fix this, you need to use PTR, loading the WPRINT?.ALL
- file that contains the printer. Once the .ALL file is
- loaded, choose the appropriate printer, choose "Soft Font
- Format Type" and ensure "PostScript" is marked with an
- asterisk. Check that PostScript is marked, save the changed
- .ALL file. ATINSTAL will now see this as a valid PostScript
- printer and will allow you to add typefaces.
-
- WINDOWS SCREEN FONTS
- ====================
-
- ATM for Windows
- ---------------
- To get screen fonts with ATM for Windows, simply "add" the new
- typefaces by pointing ATM to the \PSFONTS\FONTINFO directory (if
- you chose the directory PSFONTS for your ATM for WP fonts). If
- you're using a version of ATM for Windows prior to 2.02, install
- the version on your ATM disks.
-
- WordPerfect for Windows
- -----------------------
- The original release of WordPerfect for Windows (11/04/91) does
- not reliably display the correct screen font if multiple weights
- of the same typeface are installed. If you have this problem,
- contact WordPerfect to receive the 4/30/92 version which has a
- better success rate in getting the correct screen font.
-
- TYPEFACES
- =========
-
- Ornamental and Pi Typefaces
- ---------------------------
- These typefaces can contain a wide variety of characters. To
- determine which are available, use the following procedure:
-
- * Use ATINSTAL to install the typeface into WordPerfect.
-
- * Run ATWP to launch ATM and WordPerfect.
-
- * Edit the printer driver by entering Shift-F7, S(elect),
- E(dit).
-
- * Select "Cartridges/Fonts/Print wheels" and then "Soft
- fonts" from the menus.
-
- * Press the plus-sign key (+) to turn off the plus marks
- next to each typeface shown, except for Courier and the
- ornamental or pi typeface of interest.
-
- * Save your changes with F7
-
- * Retrieve CHARMAP.TST which comes with WordPerfect.
-
- * Select the correct typeface from the base font
- menu by entering Ctrl-F8, F(ont).
-
- * Print CHARMAP.TST.
-
- * Edit the printer driver again to mark all of the soft
- fonts with a plus mark.
-
- The printout of CHARMAP.TST shows which characters are available
- for your typeface. Notice that many of the special characters
- are placed in Character Map 12.
-
- To use the characters in a document, select the correct typeface
- from the base font menu (using Ctrl-F8, F). Enter Ctrl-V
- followed by the Character Map number and Character Code number
- (e.g. Ctrl-V 12,0).
-
- FILES ON THE ATM FOR WORDPERFECT DISKS
- ============================
-
- Two additional files not listed in Appendix H are on the ATM
- disks. They are DFMSTATS.EXE and SPATH.COM. These are technical
- support tools. Please do not remove these files from your system.
-
-
- KNOWN PROBLEMS
- ============================
-
- Installing additional fonts for PostScript printer fails if it's
- the only printer available for ATM for WP. The error message
- refers to missing ALL file. SOLUTION: install dummy HP Laserjet
- printer with ATM for WP.
-
- On the installed version of ATM, WP Works users can only use the
- LetterPerfect portion of Works when using the ATWP command to
- load ATM and WP Works. To correct this problem, from inside the
- Works directory, open the ATINSTAL application (type " ATINSTAL
- /A"). In the install program, change the listed directory
- location of Works from "C:\WW10\LP.EXE" to "C:\WW10\WW.EXE".
-
- Users of Hewlett-Packard LaserJet compatible printers who have
- configured their systems to print alternate typefaces for "clone
- printers" may experience problems using ATM for WP. If no EMS
- memory is defined, an "Out of Memory" error may occur. Also, a
- rasterizing error (Error 92) may occur when printing extended
- characters; a fix to this problem will be made available soon.
-
- Users may experience printing problems in LetterPerfect when
- downloading fonts to the printer. If you have problems printing,
- use the printer setup options to set the font location as
- resident on the printer.
