- SPLIT AND COMBINE USER INSTRUCTIONS
-
- SPLIT.EXE is a general purpose utility that allows you to
- copy a large file from your hard disk to one or more floppy
- diskettes. This is useful for transferring TARGA image files
- from one machine to another and serves as a useful way to store
- TARGA images. COMBINE.EXE allows you to reverse this process, ie.
- it combines the diskettes back into one file on your hard disk.
-
- To copy a TARGA image from your hard disk to one or more formatted
- diskettes, use the SPLIT command as follows:
-
- 1. Change directories to the directory on your hard disk
- which contains the TARGA image you wish to save.
-
- 2. Place the diskette that contains SPLIT.EXE and COMBINE.EXE
- into your A: drive.
-
- 3. Type the command "A:SPLIT FILE.EXT" where FILE is the
- name of the TARGA image and EXT is the extension on
- the image name (.WIN or .TGA etc.). For example
- the command might be "A:SPLIT BIRD.TGA".
-
- 4. The program will now instruct you to insert the first
- diskette into drive A:. Do this and then press the
- RETURN key. Label this diskette "BIRD.TGA DISK NUMBER 1"
- (for example). The program will continue to ask you to insert
- diskettes into drive A: until the entire file has been saved.
- The number of diskettes needed depends on the size of
- the file being saved and on the amount of space available
- on each diskette.
-
- To put the previously saved TARGA image back on your hard disk, use the
- COMBINE command as follows:
-
- 1. Change directories to the directory on your hard disk
- where you want to store the TARGA image.
-
- 2. Place the diskette that contains SPLIT.EXE and COMBINE.EXE
- into your A: drive.
-
- 3. Type the command "A:COMBINE FILE.EXT" where FILE is the
- name of the targa image and EXT is the extension on
- the image name (.WIN or .TGA etc.). For example
- the command might be "A:COMBINE BIRD.TGA".
-
- 4. The program will now prompt you to insert the first diskette
- into drive A:. Place the diskette labeled "BIRD.TGA DISK
- NUMBER 1" (for example) into drive A: and then type RETURN.
- The program will prompt you for diskettes in numerical order,
- when you have finished this process for all the diskettes
- type "Q" and a RETURN to exit the program. The TARGA image
- will now be on your hard disk.
