- build an "electronic dashboard" to collect, combine, and automatically
- monitor information from a wide range of spreadsheets, database files, and
- database servers.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This file contains notes and suggestions that can help you use Forest &
- Trees more effectively. The information in this file does not appear in
- the documentation.
-
- ********************** GENERAL INFORMATION*********************************
-
- There are a couple of features in the program that don't appear in the
- documentation: Calculate All in the Workspace File menu and Markers in the
- Edit Graph Palettes menu. Both of these features are explained in the
- on-line Help system.
-
- We recommend that you run Forest & Trees in either Windows standard or 386
- enhanced modes. Graphs and reports can produce unpredictable results when
- you run Forest & Trees in real mode or when memory is low.
-
- Include the directory where FTW.EXE and FTW.HLP reside in the PATH
- statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
-
-
- ********************** REPORTS ********************************************
-
- If you want to rename a report, save it before you rename it.
-
- You can't change the printer setup for an existing report. A report
- prints with the printer setup that existed when the report was created.
-
- If the report icon is present in a view that doesn't contain a report,
- ignore it.
-
- If you create a report that is attached to a query view, then change the
- view's provider to formula, you will have to recreate the view's reports.
- If you attempt to calculate the report, you receive the error CANNOT RELOAD
- PROVIDER. If you again attempt to calculate the report, you may experience
- an unrecoverable error.
-
- If you want a variable break to start on a new page, you have to create a
- header for the new pages. Without the header, the variable break is
- inserted but does not start a new page.
-
- ********************** Graphs**********************************************
-
- The ability to graph queries that return a null result is not available.
-
- Reselecting variables in graphs (Modify Variables Selected) causes the
- independent annotation variable to reset to a default value.
-
- Buttons occasionally disappear from Edit Graph window. Click the button to
- return it to the screen.
-
- On graphs with a maximum value between 80 and 140, the default range may
- not extend high enough to graph all values. You may have to modify the
- graph range.
-
- If you modify the graph range so that the largest data value exceeds the
- graph range, that value is placed at the maximum end of the range.
-
-
- Limit the number of graphs in a view to 40 or less. Beyond that number,
- graph performance is unpredictable.
-
- Don't attempt to change the graph type of an existing graph more than twice
- without first making a change to the graph. Changing graph type may cause
- an unrecoverable error if the graph is not modified.
