  86. BACKGROUND OF THIS PROGRAM:

  89. This program, first released in 1989 under the name "Small
  90. Business Expert," has been updated quarterly each calendar
  91. quarter since then.  It was written, and is researched and
  92. updated on a weekly basis by Michael D. Jenkins, CPA and
  93. attorney, with a new version released each calendar
  94. quarter.  In addition to providing frequently updated tax,
  95. business, and legal information for small businesses, the
  96. program itself has been under almost constant revision and
  97. expansion over the years, to make it ever-easier to use and
  98. more useful to you, the small business owner or adviser.

  106. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

  109. The author of this program, and content provider for the
  110. Quicken version, Mr. Jenkins, is a graduate of the Harvard
  111. Law School, and formerly was a tax attorney with a large
  112. San Francisco law firm noted for its expertise in venture
  113. capital matters, Cooley, Godward, Castro, Huddleson &
  114. Tatum.
  115.  
  116. Mr. Jenkins is also a Certified Public Accountant, and
  117. practiced for over 4 years as a tax CPA with two of the
  118. "Big Six" international accounting firms, in Los Angeles
  119. and Honolulu, as well as being a manager and later a tax
  120. partner for several years with a large local CPA firm in
  121. the San Francisco area.  He also spent several years
  122. practicing as an economics and business consultant in L.A.
  123. and Washington, D.C., with the consulting firm and private
  124. "think tank," Economics Research Associates.  At present,
  125. he authors a series of business "how-to" books and runs a
  126. small software company, Ronin Software, which publishes this
  127. program and another shareware program, the financial
  128. takeover game/simulation, "Wall $treet Raider."

  134. This program has received very favorable reviews in PC WORLD
  135. Magazine in a 1993 cover article that selected it as one of
  136. only 24 "instant payback" software programs, that would more
  137. than pay for themselves almost immediately.  It was again
  138. chosen and reviewed very favorably in a 1994 PC WORLD cover
  139. article that selected Small Business Advisor as one of "the
  140. best of business shareware" programs.  More recently, it
  141. received rave reviews ("...superb all-in-one information
  142. source...") in a full-page article in the March, 1995 issue
  143. of The COMPUTER SHOPPER.

  164. its 16th annual edition) first appeared in 1981.

  168. hundreds of small business books INC. reviewed, in a cover

  171. 1994 issue) said that the Starting & Operating a Business
