  7. Despite some erosion in recent years, the tax law still
  8. tends to put employee fringe benefits on somewhat of a
  9. pedestal.  The following discussion covers 3 of the more
  10. commonly provided types of fringe benefit ("employee
  11. welfare") plans offered by employers, generally on
  12. a tax-free basis to employees:   Health care plans,
  13. disability insurance, and group-term life insurance
  14. plans.  This discussion does not cover other important
  15. benefit plans such as pension and profit sharing plans,
  16. discussions of which are to be found elsewhere in this
  17. program.
