- Rand's Tournament Organizer - Mini - Manual
-
-
- Installation:
-
- Change to the directory that you want to run
- Rand's Tournament Organizer. It is recommended
- that you create a new directory named "RTO" and
- use that directory to run Rand's Tournament
- Organizer from. Next, use PKUNZIP to decompress
- the files that are found in RTOSW1.ZIP. Three
- files must be present to operate the RTO system:
- RTOINIT.EXE, RTO.BAT, and RTOHELP.HLP. Do not put
- RTO on your path. Rand's Tournament Organizer
- should be run from the directory in which contains
- the RTO system.
-
- Your CONFIG.SYS file must contain the statement
- FILES=47 or some number greater than 47.
-
-
- Startup:
-
- To start Rand's Tournament Organizer change
- directories to RTO (or to the directory that
- contains the RTO system). Type the command "RTO".
- (Calling this batch file allots the sufficient
- number of file handles needed by the RTO system
- and starts the program).
-
- You will be asked for the password. Immediately
- after installation, your password will be "RANDS".
- You may change this password later from the CHANGE
- THE REGISTRATION selection found in the UTILITIES
- menu.
-
-
- Overview:
-
- Rand's Tournament Organizer is set up in such a
- fashion to mimic the normal functioning of a golf
- tournament. First, and to the left most portion
- of the RTO Main Menu, is the TOURNAMENT menu.
- This is where the tournament is created, set up
- and then ultimately deleted. Second, and next
- toward the right, is the PLAYERS menu. Here
- players, teams and members are entered and the
- players' handicap flights can be set up. Moving
- more to the right is the TEE-TIMES menu and the
- PAIRINGS menus. This is where the players are
- organized into their tee-off positions.
-
- Now the tournament is ready to go. The next set
- of menu selections is the SCORES menu and, as the
- name suggests, the players and teams scores are
- entered here. The Leader Board functions are also
- found in this menu.
-
- Throughout the tournament, and in days following
- the completion of the tournament, reports can be
- displayed or printed out using the SHOW or PRINT
- menu selections.
-
- The UTILITIES menu selection contain the functions
- necessary to operate, maintain and modify the RTO
- system.
-
- The EXIT selection quits the RTO system and
- returns you to the operating system.
-
-
- Create a Tournament:
-
- Many of the menu selections will not operate until
- you create your first tournament.
-
- To create a tournament select CREATE A TOURNAMENT
- from the TOURNAMENT menu. You will be required
- to give the tournament a name and to set some
- basic parameters for this new tournament.
-
- Next, select SET UP THE TOURNAMENT. In this menu
- selection you will be allowed to structure the
- tournament to meet your needs. You will be able
- to change things like the number of players per
- team, the type of scoring and the type of
- handicapping to be used. You can also set up the
- course parameters so that the scoring will reflect
- the hole values of the course you are going to
- play on. The final selection lets you save the
- current setting as "Default" settings for use in
- future tournaments.
-
-
- Enter Players:
-
- Now you are ready to start entering players.
- Select ADD/UPDATE/DELETE PLAYERS. Here you will
- be presented with a screen to enter your first
- player. Type in his name, handicap and any other
- data you want to keep on file. Press the <F10>
- key to save your data or press the <Esc> key or
- <F2> key to exit without saving. The next time
- you select this feature you will be presented with
- a list of previously entered players and you can
- use the <F5> key to enter more players, or you can
- use the <F4> key to delete a player and the <F6>
- key to edit the highlighted player.
-
-
- Tee-Times:
-
- The first step in setting up the game day is to
- set the tee-times. Select SET UP THE TEE-TIMES.
- Here you will need to set the starting tee-time,
- the interval in minutes between tee-times and the
- number of tee-time slots to be created. Once this
- is done for each day of the tournament move on to
- build the pairings lists.
-
-
- Pairings:
-
- Now set up the pairings list in the same fashion.
- Select SET UP THE PAIRING LIST. Here you will
- need to set the maximum players to build into the
- pairings list, the number of players in each group
- teeing off (foursomes, fivesomes, etc.) and
- whether the groups will be starting on the first
- hole, the tenth hole or both.
-
- Once this setup is complete, exit back to the RTO
- Main Menu and choose the second selection in the
- Pairings Menu, which is BUILD THE PAIRINGS LIST.
- In this routine you decide which game day to build
- and then how you want the building to proceed.
- There are several orders of building to choose
- from.
-
-
- Scores:
-
- To start entering the players' scores, select
- INPUT PLAYERS SCORES. First enter the game day,
- then the player's number and start inputting
- scores. The preferred method of entering scores
- is to use one caller and one keyboarder. The
- caller calls out the hole scores in groups of
- threes to the keyboarder who punches in the
- called out numbers repeating each group of three
- hole scores as well as the IN, OUT and TOTAL to
- serve as a check to the players score card
- addition. This method has proven to be a helpful
- way of avoiding inputting errors.
-
- At any time during the game, you can select the
- display the Leader Board on the screen or print it
- out.
-
-
- Show:
-
- The SHOW menu is divided into four categories:
- Players, Teams, Members and Tournaments. Each
- menu selection contains numerous valuable screen
- reports for each category. Select SHOW THE
- PLAYERS LISTS then select PLAYERS IN NUMBER ORDER.
- The players will be listed in player number order.
- Use the other lists as you need them.
-
-
- Print:
-
- As in the SHOW menu, the PRINT menu is similarly
- divided into categories which offer numerous
- printed reports. Select PRINT THE PLAYERS LISTS
- then select PLAYERS IN NAME ORDER. The players
- will then be printed in name order. Use the other
- list to print players lists in a variety of ways.
-
-
- Exit:
-
- Your done! You've just completed your first RTO
- system tournament.
-
-
-
- Of course there are many variations to the above
- simplified demonstration but basically that's all it takes
- to organize and operate a golf tournament using Rand's
- Tournament Organizer. I recommend that you create a few
- tournaments in a few different formats, enter a number of
- players and teams and try all of the various menu
- selections. I'm sure that a few minutes of hands on
- experimentation with the RTO system will give you a great
- amount of confidence toward using this software to run your
- next real-life tournament.
-
- If you don't like Rand's Tournament Organizer, please
- send me a fax and let me know why. I am always anxious to
- refine the system and to add needed features.
-
- If you liked the RTO system, please register this
- shareware. Your paid registration will give you all the
- latest improvements and additions to the RTO system. Please
- see the above section on how to register your shareware.
-
- Thank you for trying Rand's Tournament Organizer.
