<p class="Paragraph">Some of these functions are also available in the <help:link Id="65883" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Writing aids</help:link> dialog, which you can start during the spellcheck.</p>
<p class="Head2"><help:help-id value="HID_CLB_LINGU_MODULES" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"/>Available language modules</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">This is where you see the language modules available for use in your OpenOffice.org installation.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph">A language module can contain one, two or three submodules: Spellcheck, hyphenation and thesaurus. Each sub-module can be available in one or more languages. If you click in front of the name of the module, in order to set a mark, you thereby activate all the available sub-modules simultaneously. If you remove a set mark, you thereby deactivate all the available sub-modules simultaneously. If you wish only to activate or deactivate certain sub-modules, then change to the<help:link Id="67899" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><span class="T1">Edit modules</span></help:link> dialog.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">To edit a language module, select it and click <span class="T1">Edit</span>.</help:help-text> The <help:link Id="67899" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><span class="T1">Edit Modules</span></help:link> dialog appears.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">In the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Custom dictionaries</span> area you will find a list box and the <span style="font-weight:bold;">New, Edit</span> and <span style="font-weight:bold;">Delete</span> buttons.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">The available custom dictionaries are listed in the list box.</help:help-text> Mark the custom dictionary that you wish to use for the spellcheck. Write-protected dictionaries are not shown.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">This button will take you into the<span style="font-weight:bold;">Apply custom dictionary</span> dialog, in which you can determine the settings for the new custom dictionary.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Head3">New dictionary</p>
<p class="Paragraph">In the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Dictionary</span> area you can name a new custom dictionary or exception dictionary and define the language to be applied for the spellcheck.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">Enter here the name of the new dictionary.</help:help-text> The file extension "*.DIC" is automatically appended.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">By selecting a certain language you can limit the use of the custom dictionary.</help:help-text> By selecting <span style="font-weight:bold;">All</span> the custom dictionary is used independently of the current language.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If you wish to avoid certain words in your documents, mark this field.</help:help-text> You can include in the custom dictionary defined in this way all the words to be avoided. During the spellcheck, if this exception dictionary is activated, you will receive a corresponding notice that this word must be avoided.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">When you press this button the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Edit custom dictionary</span> dialog appears, in which you can add to your custom dictionary or edit existing entries.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph">In this dialog you have the possibility to enter new terms or edit existing entries. If you edit an exception dictionary, the dialog has the added facility of defining an exception for a word. During the spellcheck this exception is then listed as a suggestion.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">When a dictionary is edited, a check is made on the status of the file. If, for example, it is write-protected, it cannot be changed. The buttons <span style="font-weight:bold;">New</span> and <span style="font-weight:bold;">Delete</span> are then deactivated. In such a case you must first change the status of the file.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">Here you can select the book to edit.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:to-be-embedded Eid="ignore"><a name="ignore"/><help:key-word value="Ignore list; spellcheck" tag="kw66263_6"/><help:key-word value="Spellcheck; ignore list" tag="kw66263_5"/>In the ignore list with the name <span style="font-weight:bold;">IgnoreAllList (All)</span>, which is administered only for the current spellcheck in the volatile RAM, all words are included that you have marked during the spellcheck with <span style="font-weight:bold;">Ignore</span>. Furthermore, some of your user data (e.g. name, company, street) will be entered in the list at the program start. <span style="font-weight:bold;">IgnoreAllList (All) </span>cannot be deleted.</help:to-be-embedded></p>
<p class="Paragraph">The <span style="font-weight:bold;">IgnoreAllList</span> entry cannot be selected and cannot be deleted. Only the words included as content can be deleted. This happens automatically each time that OpenOffice.org shuts down.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">Here you can enter a new word for inclusion in the dictionary. In the list box below you will see the contents of the current custom dictionary.</help:help-text> If you select a word from this list it is displayed in the text box. If you enter a word with an equals sign after it, e.g. AutoComplete=, this word is neither automatically separated nor is a separation proposed. If instead you enter the sign for example like "Auto=Complete", the word is only separated, or a separation suggested, at this point.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">This input field is only available if you are editing an exception dictionary. The field takes the alterative suggestion for the word in the "Word" text box.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph">With the two text boxes for editing an exception dictionary, proceed as follows: Assume that you are writing "E-Mail" exactly as written here. By way of alternative you also want "email" to be offered as a correction. In the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Word</span> text box write E-Mail and in the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Suggestion</span> box email.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">Click on this button in order to add the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Word</span> in the text box, and for exception dictionaries also the word appearing in the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Suggestion </span>box, to your current custom dictionary.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If you click the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Delete</span> button, the marked word is removed from the current custom dictionary.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If you want to change a value, select the entry and then click <span style="font-weight:bold;">Edit</span>.</help:help-text> You will see a dialog for entering the new word.</p>
<p class="Head3">Check uppercase words</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If only words that contain capital letters are to be checked, then mark this field.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Head3">Check words with numbers.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If only words that contain numbers as well as letters are to be checked, then mark this field.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Head3">Check uppercase/lowercase</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If during the spellcheck the correct use of capitals at the start of words is also to be checked, then mark this field.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Head3">Check special regions</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If during the spellcheck special regions are also to be checked, such as text in headers and footers, in text document tables and in text frames, then mark this field.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Head3">Check in all languages</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If you mark here, then a correspondence between a word and any of the installed languages is considered to be correct.</help:help-text> The "Language" font attribute is therefore not taken into account.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:to-be-embedded Eid="automatisch"><help:help-text value="visible">If this function is active, the automatic spellcheck is activated.</help:help-text></help:to-be-embedded></p>

<p class="Paragraph">Any spelling mistakes found in the document are underlined in red wavy lines. If the cursor is positioned on such a word, use the context menu to open a list of suggestions if there are any in the active dictionaries. Select one of the suggestion to replace the underlined word. If the same error occurs again it will be automatically corrected.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">This function is only valid until you <help:switch select="System"><help:case select="MAC">save</help:case><help:case select="OS2">save</help:case><help:default>save</help:default></help:switch> the document.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">To apply the word "pair" in the <help:link Id="65876">AutoCorrect Replacement Table</help:link>, select the <help:link Id="65697">automatic correction context menu</help:link>. Selecting the menu item pops up a menu containing replacement suggestions. Your selection will replace the word in the document and the word "pair" will be included in your replacement table.</p>

<p class="Head3">Don't mark errors</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">Mark this check box if you do not want the spelling errors to be indicated with a red wavy underline.</help:help-text> This mode allows you to check the spelling "on the background" while typing or loading a text, but without the time-consuming red underlining. If you unmark the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Don't mark errors</span> box later, you will immediately see the red underlining.</p>
<p class="Head3">Old German spellcheck<help:key-word value="Spellcheck; old German" tag="kw66263_4"/><help:key-word value="Spellcheck; new German" tag="kw66263_3"/></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">Check this box if you would only like to apply the old German spelling rules. If you don't check this box, OpenOffice.org follows the new spelling rules for the spellcheck and hyphenation.</help:help-text></p>

<p class="Head3">Characters before line break</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">The number entered sets the minimum number of characters of the word to be hyphenated that must remain at the end of the line.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Head3">Characters after line break</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">The number specified in this box indicates the minimum number of characters (of the hyphenated word) required at the next line.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Head3">Hyphenate without enquiry</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If this field is marked, the automatic hyphenation will never ask you for a manual hyphenation. If the field is not marked, you will asked for words whose hyphenation is not yet known, where the word should be hyphenated.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible">If this field is marked, hyphenation will also be carried out in footnotes, headers and footers.</help:help-text></p>
