<p class="Paragraph"><help:key-word value="Help; context-sensitive" tag="kw66050_1" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"/>Choose <span class="T1">Help - Contents</span> to start the Help. An overview appears with a list of topics. This page corresponds to the active OpenOffice.org application, for example, if you are working on a text document when you open the Help, the OpenOffice.org Writer Help opens. That is the origin of the various titles of the overview pages: OpenOffice.org Help, OpenOffice.org Writer Help, OpenOffice.org Calc Help, OpenOffice.org Impress Help, OpenOffice.org Draw Help, OpenOffice.org Math Help, etc. You can always return to the superordinate OpenOffice.org Help via a hyperlink at the bottom of each overview page.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">On the Help bar, several icons and selection windows are at your disposal for working with the Help: <span class="T1">Help Index</span>, <span class="T1">Choose Help File</span>, <span class="T1">Search in the Help</span>, <span class="T1">Zoom Out</span>, <span class="T1">Zoom In</span>, <span class="T1">Insert Bookmark</span>, and <span class="T1">Write Comments</span>.</p>

<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Choose a specific Help file from this list box regardless of the current context.</help:help-text> For example, you can view the Help about OpenOffice.org Calc to consult the order of a calculating function while working on an open text document.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click this icon to open the <help:link Id="66050" Eid="such"><span class="T1">Search</span></help:link> dialog. This dialog enables you to run a targeted search for a topic in the <span class="T1">active Help</span></help:help-text>. (See the <help:link Id="66050" Eid="inhalta" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">note</help:link> above regarding the term "active" Help).</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click this icon to set a bookmark.</help:help-text> After clicking this icon, the <help:link Id="66050" Eid="lese" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Bookmark</help:link> dialog will appear which enables you to define a bookmark. You can also use the <span class="T1">Bookmark</span> context menu.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click this icon to <help:link Id="66050" Eid="anmerk">write comments</help:link> on the current help topic.</help:help-text> After clicking this icon, the <span class="T1">Comments</span> dialog will appear enabling you to enter comments in the input field. You can also open this dialog using the <span class="T1">Comments</span> context menu.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">When you position the mouse over a hyperlink, the mouse pointer changes to the form of a hand with an extended index finger.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">After clicking a hyperlink, the display switches to the new page containing the desired information. In this way, you can navigate through the Help system similarly as in the Internet. The arrow icons (<span class="T1">Forward</span> and <span class="T1">Back</span>) in the OpenOffice.org Function bar allow you to move back and forth between the individual help topics. Another method to return to the previous page is available via the context menu.</p>

<p class="Head2">Copying examples</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you find an example in the help that you want to use, e.g., OpenOffice.org Basic code, you can simply select the area and copy it to the clipboard (<help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">(Command)</help:case><help:default>(Ctrl)</help:default></help:switch> (C)). Then insert the example directly to the corresponding field or window (<help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">(Command)</help:case><help:default>(Ctrl)</help:default></help:switch> (V)).</p>

To change print settings beforehand, however, use the <span class="T1">Print</span> context menu command or choose <span class="T1">File - Print</span>.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph">You can add comments to particular Help topics if you wish to do so.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Making Comments:</p>

<p class="P3">In the Comments dialog, you can enter the text for your comment. If while you are using your Help you come upon a page that has comments added to it, an icon will be visible next to the topic heading to indicate those comments.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">To search for a specific content, you can enter the corresponding search term directly.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Searching for a term or topic in the active help (See above <help:link Id="66050" Eid="inhalta" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">note</help:link> for information regarding the term "active help"):</p>

<p class="P4">Click the <span class="T1">Find</span> icon in the Help toolbar.</p>

<p class="P4">The Find dialog is displayed.</p>
</li>

<p class="P4">Begin by searching for an entry on the <help:link Id="68246" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Index</help:link> tab page. The search for index topics is much faster compared to a full-text search via the Text tab page. Under <span class="T1">Index</span>, you will find all the headings of the active Help, including several "How to" instructional texts. Since the entries are alphabetically ordered, you only need to enter the first letter to jump immediately to a certain area of the index.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">The first time you perform a full-text search on the <span class="T1">Text</span> tab page, you should check the <span class="T1">Create index</span> box. A full-text index file is created, and the next time you search for a word on the <span class="T1">Text</span>tab page, the results will be displayed immediately.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">On several help pages, you will see a link "How to access this function". When you click this text, a Pop-Up window appears to show which menu or icon in the toolbar is used to activate the described function.</p>
<p class="Head2">Help via the keyboard</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Press <span class="T1">(Shift)(F1)</span> to display a question mark next to the mouse pointer. Use this <span class="T1">Help Pointer</span> to obtain information about icons or menu commands. The content corresponds to the <span class="T1">Extended Help</span>.</p>
