<p class="Paragraph"><help:to-be-embedded Eid="recht"><help:help-text value="visible">This command activates the Spellcheck.</help:help-text> OpenOffice.org can spellcheck selected text sections, whole documents, headers and footers, index and footnotes.</help:to-be-embedded> The spellcheck starts at the cursor position and continues to the end of the document. The progress is shown by a progress bar. When the end of the document is reached, you are asked if the spellcheck should continue at the beginning of the document.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">The Spellcheck compares the entries with the dictionary. If there are differences in spelling or a word is not in the dictionary, the word is selected and the <span class="T1">Spellcheck</span> dialog appears. You can also add words to your dictionaries.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">The word in question is displayed in original form at the top of the dialog.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you change the word in the <span class="T1">Word</span> text box or replace it with a word from the <span class="T1">Suggestions</span> list box and then decide you want the original word back, click the word in the <span class="T1">Original</span> row and the original word reappears. You can also use the shortcut keys <help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">Option</help:case><help:default>Alt</help:default></help:switch>+O.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Correct the spelling directly or select a word from the <span class="T1">Suggestions</span> list box.</help:help-text> A red icon with an "X" appears when the word in the text box is incorrect. A green icon with check mark appears when the word is correct.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click this button to check the spelling again. Any relevant suggestions appear in the <span class="T1">Suggestions</span> list box.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">This list box suggests words from the dictionary.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Choose the spellcheck language here.</help:help-text> If you change the language during the spellcheck, the unknown word will be checked in the new language. The selected language is assigned as a hard attribute to the word. A notice appears if you select an uninstalled language. You can change the installed languages for the spellcheck in the setup program. You can look for similar words in the new language in the <span class="T1">thesaurus</span>. However, the thesaurus is not for all <help:link Id="65726" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">languages</help:link>.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">This is where you select a dictionary to which the word is added by clicking the <span class="T1">Add</span> button. The Ignore list is always displayed.</help:help-text> Custom dictionaries are searched for in both that specific directory and in the default dictionaries directory. Choose <span class="T1">Tools - Options - General - Paths</span> to find the exact settings. <p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click <span class="T1">Ignore</span> to skip the unknown word and continue the spellcheck.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click this button to ignore this word and, without further warning, all other instances thereof in the spellcheck of the document.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">By selecting the <span class="T1">Replace</span> button, the unknown word can be replaced by directly entering a word of your choice or by a word from the list field.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click this button to replace the word in question every time it appears in the document with a word entered in the text box or selected from the <span class="T1">Suggestions</span> list. This will occur without further warning.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Select the <span class="T1">Backward</span> option to reverse the search direction towards the beginning of the document.</help:help-text></p>
