<p class="Paragraph"><help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="CALC">When you calculate with cell references in which at least one of the references is assigned a date or time format, the result is automatically displayed in a corresponding format. You can, however, manually assign a different format to the formula cell. You have the following options:</help:case></help:switch></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="CALC">The Date&Time format displays the date and time and is created as soon as a value in date format is added to a value in time format.</help:case></help:switch></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="CALC">Besides addition, you can also subtract, multiply or divide values. The date system for calculation with the date value of 0 is defined under <help:link Id="66267"><span class="T1">Tools - Options - Spreadsheets... - Calculate</span></help:link>. In the default setting, the date serial number 0 corresponds to 12. 30.1899.</help:case></help:switch></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="CALC">If you enter a two-digit year, the 29/30 rule will apply to determine whether it is 19xx or 20xx. For example, 1/1/10 will be calculated as the year 2010, while 1/1/30 will be calculated as 1/1/1930. When opening documents made in an earlier version than OpenOffice.org Calc 5.0 (in which nearly all two-digit years have the prefix 19, except the last days of 1899, see above), the old rule applies.</help:case></help:switch></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="CALC">When calculating currencies in the table, the currency format of the formatted cell is used. This also applies to basic arithmetic operations. You can manually assign another format to the cells.</help:case></help:switch></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">A list of all formats is displayed here.</help:help-text> The selection made in this area determines which entries appear in the <span class="T1">Format Code</span> field and whether the <span class="T1">Options</span> are activated.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">You have here the option to select various currencies (for example the Euro) for each of the different formats in this display field.</help:help-text> The corresponding currency symbol will simultaneously appear.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Currency formats can be set independent of language or country. The format code uses the [$xxx-nnn] pattern. For example, in the case of Germany and the DM, [$DM-407] is used. The number is a program-internal country identifier which you do not need to enter to define your own formats. Special bank symbols, such as DEM or EUR, are always coded without country identifiers. The format code allows for thalers, gold bars or shells to be used as currency icons.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">A special situation arises if for a language in your operating system several currency formats have been defined. The currency formats displayed in the list box are then the result of a combination of the settings in the <span class="T1">Language</span> field and the <span class="T1">Format</span> field.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Use separators for thousands to format currencies with the 00 TDM pattern. For example, to set all amounts with the "thousand DM with one decimal place" format, enter 0.0 [TDM] as the formatcode. If you enter the number 1234 in a formatted cell, the result will be 1.234 TDM.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Here you can select a different language if you wish to use<help:link Id="65856"> foreign number formats.</help:link></help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:key-word value="Date; language" tag="kw65738_5" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"/><help:key-word value="Currency format; language" tag="kw65738_4" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"/><help:key-word value="Currency format; on foreign language systems" tag="kw65738_3" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"/>The language selection influences the date and currency format. If you change the language here, all cells that have been formatted with the default date format or the default currency format will take the country-specific date or currency format. This does not apply to user-defined formats.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Assume that you have entered "1 DM" in a cell and then saved your document. Subsequently this file may be opened on an English system. Here the default currency format will be excluded for the cell concerned and your input will also be retained on the foreign-language system.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="CHART"><help:help-text value="visible">If this field is marked, OpenOffice.org Chart selects the number format from the cell format of the cells from which the diagram has been created.</help:help-text>If you want a user-defined number format, you must first undo the marking of this field. </help:case></help:switch></p>

<p class="Paragraph">This is where you can alter the display of cell contents in some formats.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Define the amount of decimal places for numbers in a certain number format.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Here you can define the number of leading zeros.</help:help-text></p>

For user-defined formats, you can select between the <span class="T1">Add</span>, <span class="T1">Remove</span>, and <span class="T1">Edit Comment</span> options.</p>
