MovieWorks is a moving video image acquisition program to be used in conjunction with the Digital Eye video digitizer. It allows you to capture, crop, and save Movies and then play them back. It also allows you to simultaneously record a soundtrack through the built in CODEC microphone input and play it back synchronized with the Movie.
A Movie is a sequence of frames captured at the lowest resolution mode (160 x 120 pixels at four bits per pixel) of the Digital Eye. Fifteen frames are recorded every second. Movies are originally recorded in four bit format but may be converted to two bit format. Any Movie in two bit format is imaged to the screen directly off of the disk where it is stored, while four bit Movies are first imaged into two bit bitmaps and then these bitmaps are composited to the screen. Thus four bit Movies require some time to load into memory when they are first played back while two bit Movies do not. All Movie files have a "dy" extension.
The Movie Recorder window contains controls for recording and playing back the Movies you record. When many Movies are open simultaneously the name of each Movie is placed in the scrolling Movie List for quick reference. The currently selected Movie is highlighted.
Once a Movie is recorded, it can be cropped before being saved. You also have the option to convert it into other formats. A Movie can be converted from its original four bit format to two bit format so that you do not have to load it every time you open it for playback. You can convert the frames of a Movie into individual TIFF or EPS files and you can convert individual TIFF or EPS files back into Movies.
We recommend that you boot your system from a hard disk before starting up MovieWorks due to the hard disk's superior write time over optical disk. Using an optical disk or network for recording Movies may result in the loss of data.
