  4. This archive (lynx-2.6.ncurses.NIHS.tar.gz) contains an Installer.app
  5. package for lynx v2.6.  This software is location dependant, so it insists
  6. on installing to /usr/local (if you need it somewhere else, you'll need to
  7. recompile).  This version of lynx was built to use ncurses (version
  8. 1.9.9e), which implies you must have the terminfo terminal definitions
  9. installed (lynx will look in /usr/gnu/lib/terminfo by default, else define
  10. the env variable TERMINFO to point to the actual location).

  15. WHAT IS LYNX?
  16.  
  17.    Lynx is a fully-featured World Wide Web (WWW) client for users running
  18.    cursor-addressable, character-cell display devices (e.g., vt100
  19.    terminals, vt100 emulators running on PCs or Macs, or any other
  20.    "curses-oriented" display). It will display hypertext markup language
  21.    (HTML) documents containing links to files residing on the local
  22.    system, as well as files residing on remote systems running Gopher,
  23.    HTTP, FTP, WAIS, and NNTP servers. Current versions of Lynx run on
  24.    Un*x and VMS.
  25.    
  26.    Lynx can be used to access information on the World Wide Web, or to
  27.    build information systems intended primarily for local access. For
  28.    example, Lynx has been used to build several Campus Wide Information
  29.    Systems (CWIS). In addition, Lynx can be used as a shell interface for
  30.    beginning users.
