  1. *** AUC-TeX for GNU Emacs

  3. AUC-TeX is a comprehensive customizable integrated environment for
  4. writing input files for LaTeX using GNU Emacs.
  5.  
  6. AUC-TeX lets you run TeX/LaTeX and other LaTeX-related tools, such as
  7. a output filters or post processor from inside Emacs.  Especially
  8. `running LaTeX' is interesting, as AUC-TeX let's you browse through
  9. the errors TeX reported, while it moves the cursor directly to the
  10. reported error, and displays some documentation for that particular
  11. error.  This will even work when the document is spread over several
  12. files.

  14. AUC-TeX automatically indents your `LaTeX-source', not only as you
  15. write it---you can also let it indent and format an entire document.
  16. It has a special outline feature, which can greatly help you `getting
  17. the overview' of a document.

  19. Apart from these special features, AUC-TeX provides an large range of
  20. handy Emacs macros, which in several different ways can help you
  21. write your LaTeX documents fast and painless.

  23. All features of AUC-TeX are documented using the GNU Emacs online
  24. documentation system.  That is, documentation for any command is just
  25. a key click away!

  27. AUC-TeX is written entirely in Emacs-Lisp, and hence you can easily
  28. add new features for your own needs.  It was not made as part of any
  29. particular employment or project (apart from the AUC-TeX project
  30. itself).  AUC-TeX is distributed under the `GNU Emacs General Public
  31. License' and may therefore almost freely be copied and redistributed.
