  12. The current version of LaTeX is 2e, LaTeX 2.09 is obsolete. 2e incorporates
  13. an 2.09 compatibility mode, which works well for most old documents but not
  14. all. This package contains a LaTeX 2.09 plug-in for teTeX 0.4.

  39.  a) If you haven't yet installed teTeX-0.4

  42.   - replace teTeX's install.sh script by install209.sh, e.g.
  43.         mv install.sh ..../teTeX-0.4/distrib/.
  44.   - move goodies/latex209.tar.gz into the goodies/ directory of your teTeX
  45.     installation package, e.g.
  46.         mv goodies/latex209.tar.gz ..../teTeX-0.4/distrib/goodies/.
  47.   - Install teTeX as described in INSTALL.bin (don't forget to select the 
  48.     `latex209' package in `goodies')
  49.   - after install.sh has finished, `mv' the included texconfig and latex209
  50.     into teTeX's binary directory (replacing bin/ARCHDIRECTORY with your
  51.     binary directory, e.g. `bin/mab-nextstep3' or just `bin'),
  52.         mv texconfig latex209 TETEXDIR/bin/ARCHDIRECTORY/.
  53.     and run again texhash and texconfig:

  62.   - unpack goodies/latex209.tar.gz
  63.         gzip -dc latex209.tar.gz | tar -xvpf -
  64.     (if the `p' doesn't work for your tar, set your umask to 0 before
  65.     unpacking)
  66.   - move the directories into their place in the teTeX tree (replace
  67.     TETEXDIR with the place where your teTeX lives):
  68.         mv teTeX/texmf/doc/latex209 TETEXDIR/texmf/doc/.
  69.         mv teTeX/texmf/tex/latex209 TETEXDIR/texmf/tex/.
  70.   - `mv' the included texconfig and latex209 into teTeX's binary directory
  71.     (replacing bin/ARCHDIRECTORY with your binary directory, e.g. 
  72.     `bin/mab-nextstep3' or just `bin'),
  73.         mv texconfig latex209 TETEXDIR/bin/ARCHDIRECTORY/.
  74.     and run again texhash and texconfig:

  83. As delivered in this package, latex209 will use the Babel package for
  84. foreign language support. If you instead want to use the `plain' versions
  85. of the hyphenation packages, replace
  86. TETEXDIR/texmf/tex/latex209/initex/lhyphen.tex with LaTeX 2.09's
  87. lhyphen.tex (included here within), edit accordingly, and rerun
  88. "texconfig init" to remake the format.
