  1. This is TeXview-3.0l-kp0.25, compiled quad-FAT for NEXTSTEP 3.x.

  3. TeXview-kp is a version of TeXview with kpathsearch support.
  4. It's intended for use with teTeX-0.4, though it may also work with other TeX distributions.
  5.  
  6. TeXview-3.0l-kp0.25 is based on the last official TeXview by
  7. Tom Rokicki, here referred to as TeXview-3.0l. The kpathsearch support was
  8. added by Gregor Hoffleit.

  11. INSTALLATION:
  12.  
  13. To avoid trouble and side effects caused by old TeX binaries, you may
  14. want to remove your old TeX installation. Otherwise you have to make sure
  15. that teTeX binaries are found first.
  16.  
  17. Install teTeX-0.4. Make sure that teTeX's binaries are in the path of the
  18. csh (!!!) on your system (independent on your login shell, TeXview-kp will
  19. use the csh to look up the path of your teTeX installation).
  20.  
  21. As described in teTeX's INSTALL.bin, there are two ways to make the teTeX
  22. binaries visible to your shell:
  23.  
  24. a) insert the path of the binaries (e.g. /usr/local/teTeX/bin/mab-nextstep3
  25.    or /usr/local/teTeX/bin) to the path variable in your csh profile.
  26.    This could be done in /etc/cshrc.std (global) or in your personal
  27.    .cshrc. If you may have old TeX binaries floating around on your system,
  28.    it's wise to put the teTeX directory in front of all others in the path.

  30. b) Make symbolic links from all teTeX binaries into a well-known directory
  31.    (i.e. a directory that's in csh's PATH). Good choices may be
  32.    /usr/local/bin (global installation) or ~/Unix/bin (if set in .cshrc).
  33.    DON'T MOVE OR COPY THE FILES!
  34.  
  35. Finally, put TeXview in an Apps directory, e.g. /LocalApps (global) or
  36. ~/Apps. You may be better off if you remove any old TeXview version, e.g.
  37. from /NextDeveloper/Demos.

  40. COEXISTENCE OF MULTIPLE TEXVIEWS WITH TETEX:

  42. With teTeX-0.4, you can explicitely choose the TeXview program that shall
  43. be called when executing "tex -v". There's a variable IPCSERVERCMD that
  44. controlls the launch of the previewing application. Its default value
  45. is
  46.     open `which TeXview`
  47.     
  48. This can be overriden by setting an environment variable IPCSERVERCMD,
  49. e.g. for in a zsh (note the escapes!):
  50.  
  51.   export IPCSERVERCMD="open \`which HyperTeXview\`"
  52.  
  53. or by adding a line to texmf.cnf, e.g. (note: no quotes!)
  54.  
  55.   IPCSERVERCMD   = open `which HyperTeXview`
  56.  
  57. would start up the first version of HyperTeXview that can found in Workspace's
  58. LaunchPath (not the PATH!). This feature is not yet very well tested, make
  59. your own experiences ;-). The correct quoting of the command is very
  60. important!
