  39. TeXmenu SUMMARY:
  40.  
  41. TeXmenu  provides a  unified  NeXTSTEP front  end  for Donald  Knuth's  famous
  42. typesetting  system TeX. TeXmenu  integrates all the  tools needed to  use TeX
  43. in one application, i.e. you are no longer forced to handle various tools like
  44. the  editor, the previewer, utilities  such as spell checkers,  and TeX itself
  45. from  different applications.  TeXmenu offers  a powerful  project management,
  46. including  structure recognition,  file  handling  and  project  search,  thus
  47. providing a convenient way of handling larger multi-file documents. TeXmenu is
  48. designed  as an ``open'' application,  i.e. it does not  depend on any version
  49. specific  features of  TeX,  viewers,  editors  (and friends)  and  is  widely
  50. customizable.  TeXmenu offers services so  the user can keep  in touch with it
  51. from  any other  application, get  help  on LaTeX,  translate his/her  current
  52. project,  any file  or  even  screen  selections.  When  running  TeX  in  the
  53. background  TeXmenu alerts  the  user  when  an  error  occurs  and  offers  a
  54. convenient way to jump between the error message and location of the error, as
  55. well as letting the user continue the translation afterwards!

  57. Distribution   is  done  shareware-like  (i.e.  you  are  allowed  to  copy  a
  58. unregistered version provided you're running it in demo-mode) but TeXmenu will
  59. have some annoying ``features'' until you register your copy of it. Similarly,
  60. TeXmenu  comes ``shareware priced''. For  those who want a  good TeX front end
  61. without  paying anything  for it,  TeXmenu version  2.2 (black  hardware only)
  62. remains in the public domain (although ``donations'' are still accepted).

  65. TeXmenu 5.0 PRERELEASE:

  67. This  is a prerelease! Currently I don't have  the time to implement all those
  68. changes and improvements my TODO list holds :-( The file MISSINGIN5.0 included
  69. in  this version's  distribution contains  a list  of things  missing in  this
  70. prerelease the final version 5.0 will contain. However, this version has a lot
  71. improvements making it worth releasing it now:

  76.   o TeXinfo and LaTeX2e support.

  78.   o Customizable file extensions (first application running under NS
  79.     offering that!). Every extension you add can be customized to
  80.     trigger a different TeX command.

  82.   o Print from within TeXmenu. Still using dvips, the look&feel of
  83.     TeX printing has become like in any other NS application! This
  84.     includes n-up printing with cropmarks!

  86.   o OSC-Sequences to customize TeXmenu's title bar.

  88.   o New and - especially for sites - improved licensing scheme.

  90.   o Find action uses the find pasteboard.

  108. FUTURE DEVELOPMENT:

  110.         In this release TeXmenu supports the architectures m68k, i386, hppa
  111.         and sparc. Further upgrades and a final 5.0 release are planed.
  112.         Black hardware will be supported at least as long as NeXT does with
  113.     its OS.
