-
- 1. Using the Database Finder:
- -----------------------------
-
- The Database Finder can be started as an independent application, or can be launched
- from the Notes menus.
-
-
- Problem: You want to add a database to your workspace but can't find where it is.
- This problem occurs when there are tons of databases on multiple servers across your company.
- This problem occurs particularly in companies where databases and users are being moved around.
-
- You invoke the Database Finder by selecting 'FIND DATABASE' from the Tools menu in Notes 3,
- the Actions menu in Notes 4, or by launching the FINDNOTE.EXE executable file.
-
-
- In the edit box at the top, enter part or all of the database you are searching
- for. From the List Box at the left, choose which server(s) you want to search.
- Then, press the 'SEARCH' button.
-
- After the search is completed, the list box on the right will contain all databases
- which matched the search phrase. By clicking on one of these, you can see the server
- name, the database title, and the database file name in the info section below.
-
- Press Done to return to Notes.
-
- The About Button gives information about the Databaes Finder.
-
-
- 2. Install Notes:
- -----------------
-
- a) Files Installed To.
- After installed, the following files will be located in the
- following directories:
-
- C:\FINDNOTE (or if you chose to install to a different directory):
- Files Contained:
- README.TXT This file
- FSADDIN.DLL Add In Menu DLL
- FINDNOTE.EXE Database Finder Dialogs
- FINDAPI.DLL Find API
- W3HTAPI.DLL Lotus Notes API DLL
-
- C:\WINDOWS (or other windows directory)
- FINDNOTE.INI INI file for this application
-
- b) NOTES.INI File
- The following line needs to be added to your NOTES.INI file:
- (which should be in your WINDOWS directory).
- AddInMenus=C:\FINDNOTE\FSADDIN.DLL
-
-
- 3. Known Limitations.
- ---------------------
-
- a)
- When you select Find Database form the Notes menus, it will launch a copy of FindDatabase.
- If you do not choose the DONE button, this instance will still be running. The next time you
- choose Find Database from Notes, it will launch another instance.
-
- After you launch the Database Finder once, you can leave it running and
- use CTRL-ESC or ALT-TAB to switch to it.
-
- b)
- If you have ports enabled that do not have any servers on them, then the list of servers
- many not be complete. To fix this, disable any ports that do not have any Notes servers on them.
- This is due to a quirk in the Lotus Notes API, which was used to build the database finder.
