-
- 1.1 MSDOS
-
- CARVIN was written for the MSDOS operating environment. It utilizes the math
- co-processor quite extensively so if one is not present, you will notice a sharp decrease in
- playing speed. A 486DX PC or better should work fine.
-
- 1.2 Windows 3.1
-
- It is recommended that anyone using Windows 3.1 should exit the Windows environment into
- MSDOS to play the game.
-
- 1.3 Win95
-
- CARVIN works fine in the Win95 environment. It was tested on a 200Mhz Pentium Pro with
- Win95. There is a "speed compensation" routine in the game to ensure that the game speed is the
- same on any PC regardless of its microprocessor speed. If the game is moving too fast, mail me
- at: phoffman@paralynx.com

- 2.0 How to play
-
- 2.1 Object
-
- Go to the "carvin" directory (default is c:\carvin). If you are in DOS, Type "carvin" and hit
- enter. If you are in Windows, just double-click the "carvin.bat" icon. After you see
- the logo slide down the screen and come to a stop, hit any key. The menu will direct you from
- there.
-
- The object of the game is to race your snowboard down to the end of the path before time
- runs out (1 minute). While on your journey, you try to collect as many gold tokens as possible.
- You are rewarded with 100 points for each token collected.
-
- Some tokens are on the ground and some are in the air. You may have to hit a jump to reach the
- tokens in the air.
-
- If you make it to the bottom of the hill before time runs out, you advance to the next level.
-
- 2.2 Controls
-
- <left cursor> rotate the snowboard clockwise
- <right cursor> rotate the snowboard counter-clockwise
- <spacebar> Hit this when you get stuck (you have to be completely stopped for this to work)
- <p> pause game
- <esc> quit game
-
- 2.3 Saving a game
-
- At the end of the game you will be asked whether or not you would like to save the game. If you
- choose 'Y', the game will be saved in a file named "replay.lib". You can then view a replay of
- this game by choosing the "replay" option in the main menu. You can also send the "replay.lib"
- file to me via e-mail for induction into the on-line "HI-SCORE" list (see 3.3 for more details).

- 3.2 Downloading new levels
-
- If you've finished and/or perfected all the levels, check the "Carvin Web Page" for upgrades with
- additional levels to download. The number of new levels created will basically depend on demand
- so feel free to email me feedback.
-
- 3.3 Uploading saved games
-
- If you achieved greatness and would like to show off, attach the file "replay.lib" onto an e-mail
- and send it (along with your name and basic geographic location) to "phoffman@paralynx.com". If
- it is worthy, it will be gloriously displayed in the "HI-SCORES" list on our web page.
-
- 3.4 Downloading saved games
-
- Each hi-score entry on the web page will have a "replay.lib" file attached (in the form of a self-
- extracting executable) so others can download and view the game. This is recommended for players
- who are stuck on a level and would like to see how it should be done.
-
- After you've clicked "download game" you will be asked to provide a destination directory on your
- hardrive. This should be the same directory which "Carvin" was installed to (the default was
- c:\carvin). Run this file and it will automatically extract the "replay.lib" file into the
- carvin directory.
-
- To view this game, get to the Carvin main menu and select "replay".
