- WILDNET ECHO MAIL
- -----------------
-
- WILDNET is a new alternative to mail networking. The reason for
- it conception was to eliminate the use of UTI drivers. As with other
- mail networks who have a need for you to use just one type of import
- and export software program, we said this shouldn't be. The
- system operators should be able to choose what works best for them
- and their system. With this in mind WILDNET was born.
-
- With all the various topics that BBS users have to talk and ask
- questions about, we decided that we would be different from all of the
- rest. We would try to have a broad range of interests that would make
- for more conversation between the BBS users. We would have conferences
- specific for the adult users as well as having conferences for those of
- all ages. This allows us to have a wide open field of topics that we can
- discuss among ourselves.
-
- Since it is a new mail network some time will be needed as well as
- a lot of help from interested sysops to build up it's message base. I hope
- all of you will participate in helping us achieve this major hurdle.
-
-
- [GETTING STARTED]
-
- We have tried to make getting set up in WILDNET fairly simple. First
- read TNET.DOC. This will help you become familiar with TNET. Once you
- have acquainted yourself with TNET you are now ready to tackle the
- configuration file which is named NORTHGA.CFG. We have tried to take some
- of the pain out of setting this up for you. Northga.cfg has already been
- set up to match our message base areas, all you need to do is change the
- default settings so that the messages will go where you want them placed
- in your BBS system. You will notice these by the parenthesis out to the
- side of the areas that need changing. Once you have made these changes
- you should just about be ready to make your first mail run with our
- system.
-
-
- [FIRST LOGON with North Georgia BBS]
-
- As many of you will be a new user, we will need to get you verified
- before we will upgrade your access on our system.
-
- You can have 2 choices here. You can log on in your REAL NAME or
- log on as your BBS NAME. If you are mainly interested in echoing mail
- with us then the BBS NAME would probably be your best choice.
-
- Once you have been verified by our BOBCAT vailidation program you
- will be upgraded. As most of you will be long distance users Bobcat
- will disconnect you after verification. You will be able to call back
- with an upgraded status. For you to receive NETSTATUS on the mail
- packets I will have to upgrade you to this level. You can however go
- ahead and configure TOMCAT for the conferences that you would like to
- echo. We will post you a message when your NETSTATUS has been set up.
-
- Once you are connected with North Georgia BBS go to the "Message
- Menu" area, select [D] to take you into our TomCat Mail program. Once
- you are in TomCat you will need to configure TomCat, then select
- [C] for conferences you wish to open. Then proceed with your selection
- of conferences. Please make all the changes you wish to make before
- making your first mail run. We do allow 2000 messages and 400 per
- conference to be downloaded. This should help with some of the bigger
- conferences. We also keep mail for a total of 45 days before the mail
- is deleted. When you have finished with your selections and return
- to main menu of TomCat. Once we get you set up for NETSTATUS you will
- be ready for your first mail run. Type [D] to start you mail download.
-
-
- [MAIL PACKET IMPORT]
-
- Before making your first mail import please be sure to run this
- command from the command line:
-
- TNET HIGH NORTHGA (or whatever BBS config file you are using)
-
- Now you have downloaded your first mail packet and are ready to
- import them into your own BBS system. To get TNET to import messages into
- your database type TNET IMPORT (NORTHGA). This will start the import process
- into your BBS system. If all goes well it will place the mail into the
- message areas you assigned in the NORTHGA.CFG
- file.
-
- [MAIL PACKET EXPORT]
-
- This is a very crucial and important step to keep duplicate messages
- from being sent into the HUB system (North Georgia BBS). When you are
- ready to upload replies to us please be sure to export your mail first.
- To export your mail packet from your system type TNET EXPORT (NORTHGA).
- Then call the BBS with whom you are echoing mail with. After you have
- uploaded your replies then proceed with your download of the new mail
- packet.
-
- * NORTHGA and NORTHGA.CFG can be different if you are echoing from
- another BBS system.
-
-
- [RENUMBERING MESSAGE BASE]
-
- Since we all have a need to renumber our message bases from time
- to time it is very important that we reset our message pointers to
- prevent duplicates being re-uploaded to the host system. You can do
- this after you have renumbered your messages by typing TNET HIGH NORTHGA.
- This will set the pointers to the last message that you have in your
- system. This should keep duplicates from occurring.
-
-
- [ALIASES]
-
- Some of you may have a BBS that uses Alias's as a way for your
- users to keep their annonimity. With the new release of Wildcat 3.x
- and it's support for using alias's we will only allow conferences that
- are stated as being alias specific. Please be sure that if you use
- alias's that they do not enter our regular user message base.
-
- We hope that this file will help you in setting up WILDNET. We have
- tried to keeps things as simple as possible and hope to have a trouble
- free mail network. With your help we can achieve this goal. We look
- forward to sharing some interesting chat with you and all of your users.
- Let's make WILDNET into one of the best mail networks there is. If you
- have questions concerning WILDNET you can contact me by calling:
-
-
- [CONFERENCE RULES]
-
-
- [ADS]
-
- We know that as a new node you are going to want to let eveyone know
- that your BBS system is now echoing mail with us. We allow you to post 2
- ads one in the BBS ADS conference and one in the NET ADMINS. This should
- be more than sufficient to let us know that you are now echoing mail and
- are requesting replies from other nodes or hubs.
-
-
- [QUOTING OF MESSAGES]
-
- Please when replying to a message don't quote the entire message. We
- have all read these messages and don't care to read them again. Quote the
- topic then reply to it. This should keep messages for what they were
- intended for. When someone writes you a letter do you copy it then reply
- back to it. I think not! So we ask the same here.
-
-
- [TOPICS]
-
- When replying to messages please keep messages on the topic of the
- conference. If a cross echo happens we can take care of this.
-
-
- [FOUL LANGUAGE]
-
- Please when replying to mail unless you are in a conference where
- anything goes, keep it clean. We have young users and many of us don't
- care for the harsh language either.
-
-
- The rules we have asked you to comply with are simple and few. To
- help us have a fun and enjoyable clean network please post these rules
- for your users and help us control their activities. As we stated we
- don't want to have to police the conferences. We would rather have you
- deal with their actions as they are your guests on your system.
-
-
- If you have any questions concerning WILDNET or just need assistance
- give us a call we will be glad to give you a hand.
