- | o | WishNet Policies Document | o |
- | | -------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | | o |
- | | Since you are reading this documentation, I take it that you
- | o | are interested in the Wishnet NetWork. Finally, a network where | o |
- | | you can kick back, and let yourself go! No more rules such as
- | o | those to follow in Fido. Although, we do have rules (every | o |
- | | organization must have them for unity), you will find that they
- | o | are very basic. If followed, we both should have a happy union | o |
- | | within the network! | |
- | o | | o |
- | | As much as we want this network to be free and fun, we have to
- | o | lay down some ground rules. Rules that will help you to know what | o |
- | | you can expect from me, and to help answer any questions that you
- | o | might have. | o |
- | | | |
- | o | If after reading the policies listed below; you feel that you | o |
- | | still want to be a part of the WishNet NetWork, that's great! If
- | o | not, that's your decision and we will not try to persuade you to go | o |
- | | against your own views. We would like to think that WishNet is
- | o | one of the easiest-to-use nets in the country, and look forward to | o |
- | | having you aboard! If you agree then join in the message bases and
- | o | communicate with thousands of people across the nation. | o |
- | | | |
- | o | Here's to hearing from ya! | o |

- | o | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | o |
- | | Definitions: | |
- | o | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | o |
- | | * WishNet NetWork Top Dogs - SysOp*Rosie, Steve Stuart, Tom
- | o | Williams, and Richard Leneway | o |
- | | | |
- | o | * State Host - The system in your state that holds the | o |
- | | network address 19:<network>/0.
- | o | | o |
- | | * Regional Coordinator - The echomail Hub for the region that your
- | o | bbs is in (as defined in the Nodelist) | o |
- | | | |
- | o | * Zone Coordinators - Those that control each areas node FEEDS | o |
- | | | |
- | o | * SysOp - The person in control of the hardware and | o |
- | | software that a BBS runs on.
- | o | | o |
- | | -------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | System Responsibilities | o |
- | | -------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | | o |
- | | 1. The WishNet NetWork is primarily a family oriented network. No
- | o | foul or obscene language in the public/open message subs. | o |
- | | | |
- | o | 2. No discussions of a BBS format, unless it is done with the BBS | o |
- | | Conference area. All other areas for discussions of this kind
- | o | are strictly forbidden! | o |
- | | | |
- | o | 3. Unless it doesn't bother the Zone Coordinator, there are to be | o |
- | | no "PRIVATE" activity listings. Only exception: If the entire
- | o | WishNet NetWork is invited to attend as well. Otherwise, keep | o |
- | | them posted in your own local subs.
- | o | | o |
- | | 4. Currently there are NO WAR BOARDS in WishNet. I intend to keep
- | o | it that way. Let your sysOps make their own sections on their | o |
- | | boards if this is the message base content they desire.
- | o | | o |
- | | 5. No BBS will allow any ANSI or color codes in netted subs.
- | o | | o |
- | | 6. All BBS's accepted into WishNet must carry the Echomail
- | o | Conferences that are defined in the WishNet Nodelist as | o |
- | | required. | |
- | o | | o |
- | | 7. WishNet sysOp subs that are "SYSOP ONLY" must be secured as
- | o | such. Visiting sysop's other than "WishNet" SysOps should have | o |
- | | access as a special privilege. Please be discrete!
- | o | | o |
- | | 8. No BBS will output messages with handles in ANY conference
- | o | unless it is specifically stated that handles are allowed. | o |
- | | Currently all subs allow handles with the exception of two.
- | o | These two are WI_SYSOP and WI_ADMIN. | o |
- | | | |
- | o | 9. If your BBS is going down, you are expected to NETMAIL your | o |
- | | state host with as much advance notice as possible. If you do
- | o | not, the hub may mark you as "UNDIALABLE" and your return to the | o |
- | | net will be at the discretion of the State Host.
- | o | | o |
- | | 10. NO ONE (Including State and Regional Hosts) will flame another
- | o | user of the network. | o |
- | | | |
- | o | 11. No illegal information shall be passed through any echomail | o |
- | | sub. This includes, but is not limited to, the passing of
- | o | phone numbers other than your own, long distance access codes, | o |
- | | etc. | |
- | o | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | o |
- | | Remedies | |
- | o | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | o |
- | | | |
- | o | Violators of the rules will receive 3 warnings from their State | o |
- | | Host before their feed for that conference will be terminated.
- | o | Chronic offenders will be removed from the WishNet, at the | o |
- | | discretion of the State Host. Should the situation continue, the
- | o | Regional Coordinator will issue 3 warnings to the BBS, before | o |
- | | removing it from the Nodelist.
- | o | | o |
- | | State Hosts and Regional Coordinators will enforce these
- | o | policies. If a State Host or Regional Coordinator has asked you to | o |
- | | bar a user from a sub, there is a good reason for that, and if you
- | o | do not, and the user continues to be a hassle, your feed for that | o |
- | | sub will be terminated until you conform with the Regional
- | o | Coordinator's decision. | o |
- | | | |
- | o | No SysOp, CoSysOp, or user on any BBS shall enter messages in | o |
- | | an echo base attempted to enforce these rules. That is the job of
- | o | of State Hosts, Regional Coordinators, and SysOp*Rosie. This | o |
- | | includes, but is not limited to, messages like "No ANSI in this
- | o | base". Enforcement SHALL take place in NETMAIL only! | o |
- | | | |
- | o | All systems must comply with any other reasonable policies as | o |
- | | requested by their State Host or Regional Coordinator. Any policies
- | o | implemented by the State Host or Regional Coordinator must not | o |
- | | conflict with policies in this document.
- | o | | o |
- | | If you have problems with another node in your network,
- | o | complaints should be sent in NETMAIL to your State Host. If you do | o |
- | | not get a response within a reasonable amount of time, you can relay
- | o | the complaint to the Regional Coordinator. If you do not get the | o |
- | | situation remedied at that level you can go to the Zone Coordinator
- | o | and finally if need be, to SysOp*Rosie. | o |
- | | | |
- | o | If any person above the State Host finds that you have not | o |
- | | followed the chain of command, your complaint will not be processed.
- | o | | o |
- | | Complaints about the State Host go to the Regional Coordinator,
- | o | complaints about the Regional Coordinator go to a Zone Coordinator, | o |
- | | complaints about the Zone Coordinator go to SysOp*Rosie for a final
- | o | decision. | o |
- | | | |
- | o | Any removal of a system for policy violation must be accompanied | o |
- | | by an immediate notification to the Zone Coordinator with the
- | o | reasons why. | o |
- | | --------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | State Hosts | o |
- | | --------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | | o |
- | | ALL State Hosts must abide by the above stated policies.
- | o | Echomail shall be routed from the WishNet National Hub, to the | o |
- | | Regional Hubs, to the State Hub(s) in that region, to the Nodes.
- | o | --> Polling shall be done in the reverse order. <-- | o |
- | | ALL State Hosts must receive mail from their respective
- | o | Regional Hub with no other routing. | o |
- | | State Hosts shall send any changes to their segment of the
- | o | Nodelist to their Regional Coordinator no later than 12:00 Midnight,| o |
- | | Wednesday. This segment will then be processed by the Regional
- | o | Coordinator and sent to the Zone Coordinator no later than 12:00 | o |
- | | Midnight Thursday for the inclusion in the next Nodelist update.
- | o | This will automate the Nodelist updates. | o |
- | | --------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | State Hubs | o |
- | | --------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | State Hubs can charge systems in their network a fee to re-coup | o |
- | | telephone costs of getting EchoMail from the Regional Coordinator or
- | o | sending Netmail out of that network, unless the State Hub has a | o |
- | | system within their network willing to provide these services to the
- | o | network free of charge. If this situation exists, the State Hub and| o |
- | | the system within that network shall inform the Regional Coordinator
- | o | of such so that EchoMail and NetMail may be properly routed out of | o |
- | | that network. This and any other fee must be for charges that can
- | o | be documented (copies of telephone bills are documented costs. Logs | o |
- | | are not). There is no processing fee, just a charge to re-coup
- | o | exact costs. | o |
- | | All State Hubs shall POLL their Regional Coordinator for new
- | o | EchoMail at least 3 times per week. Regional Coordinators need not | o |
- | | pay to send EchoMail to non-local State Hubs unless a specific
- | o | agreement exists between the State Hub and the Regional Coordinator.| o |
- | | State Hubs shall turn on NetMail forwarding from systems in
- | o | that network. | o |
- | | --------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | Regional Hubs | o |
- | | --------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | All Regional Hubs shall abide by the policies stated above. | o |
- | | Regional Hubs shall poll the WishNet Hub (HDQ) at least 3 times
- | o | per week. | o |
- | | Regional Hubs must allow NetMail forwarding from State Hubs in
- | o | their region. | o |
- | | --------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | Applying To The WishNet NetWork | o |
- | | --------------------------------------------------------------------
- | o | Systems applying for access to WishNet will get a Nodelist, | o |
- | | this policy document, and any other documents required by your State
- | o | Host, from your State Host. You will then set yourself up as | o |
- | | 19:<network>/999 and NetMail your State Host with your request to
- | o | join The WishNet NetWork. This message must include the SysOp's | o |
- | | Real name, the SysOp's Handle, the BBS Name, the BBS Phone Number,
- | o | City of origin, State, max baud rate, name of the BBS, the type of | o |
- | | BBS software, the name of the Front End Mailer you are running, and
- | o | any other information as required by the State Host. The State Host| o |
- | | will then review your application. If acceptable, you will be
- | o | netmailed back a copy of the Nodelist, as output by the Zone | o |
- | | Coordinators, telling you what your Node Number will be.
- | o | At the discretion of the State Host that you are applying to, | o |
- | | any BBS applying for access to the network that does not warrant
- | o | disbarment altogether may be admitted to the network for a trial | o |
- | | period no longer than 90 days, at which point the systems may or
- | o | may not be to the network permanently, depending on the decisions | o |
- | | of the State Host. | |
- | o | --------------------------------------------------------------------| o |
- | | In Conclusion | |
- | o | --------------------------------------------------------------------| o |
- | | Any policies can be changed, without warning, by WishNet HDQ
- | o | National as necessary. | o |
