- ReadMe.Eh Supplementary documentation file. v1.26 CV 25/06/92
-
- Greetings! Thanks for picking up P&c!
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Please note that this is the condensed version (for SDS
- distribution), and only contains those files that are special to P&c.
- You must get the following files in addition to the P&c archive:
-
- BNU170.ARJ BNU: The Fossil driver
- VIBM_110.ZIP VIBM: The Video driver
- BTEXE250.LZH BinkleyTerm(tm): The Mailer
- GED0240E.ARJ GoldEd(tm): The Message Reader (Executables)
- SQSH_101.LZH Scott Dudley's Squish message packer!
-
- These files can be found on SDS, as well as most larger BBS's.
- A _complete_ version is also available. Check around for it.
-
- * Note: Make sure that you follow the instructions in this document
- carefully. "This program requires Microsoft Windows" is a joke.
-
- ** If you are upgrading: Please see the Upgrade document (Upgrade.Doc).
-
- *** If your sister was bitten by a moose once: Life is tough all over.
- Learn to live with it.
-
- Details, details....
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- You will need a computer. This computer should ideally have a
- harddrive in it. If it doesn't then you need to do some work with the
- configuration files, and use the /o attribute on Config-4D.
-
- You will need about 535k of available memory (to run all programs
- plus shells, but if you like, you can read the docs and figure out how
- to make it run in less). It _can_ be done in less, it just requires
- tweaking.
-
- You should also ideally have a modem. This makes communications
- easier. Or alternatively, you could shout your tones REAL loud.
-
- Docs for Impatient People
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- 1. Create a directory on C: called POINT.
- 2. Unarchive all the files from the BNU, GOLD, BT, VIBM, and Squish
- archives into the POINT directory.
- 3. Unarchive all of the files from the P&c distribution archive into
- that directory as well, overwriting the default files.
- 4. Sit down and relax. (And drink your coke)
-
- To configure point: CONFIG.EXE C (/? for help)
- To POLL BossNODE: POLL.BAT
- To run the message editor: GOLD.BAT
- To printout docs: LPR P&C4DPS.DOC
-
- <end of docs for Impatient People>

-
- Using other Support Files / Doing Without
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- You can do without the VIBM file. If you can't find it, and can
- stand to see BT run in black and white, comment out the appropriate
- lines in the POLL.Bat file.
-
- You could conceivably use a Fossil other than BNU, but I don't
- recommend it. David has done an amazing job. If you can't find it, and
- must use another, change POLL.Bat to reflect this.
-
- You must use Binkley, and Squish. That's all there is to it. :-)
- (But if you complain loud enough, I might put FrontDoor<tm> support
- in... <hint, hint>.
-
- A Word About Printing...
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- These docs were written using QEDit v2.10 with a wordwrap margin of
- 72 a leftprintmargin of 5 and a pagelength setting of 58. (Hence the
- cute 'Page xx' statements at exactly the right places) There is a print
- utility included (called LPR.Com) I wrote this version a while back, so
- it doesn't include support for some printers. If the docs don't print
- on your printer, try playing with the CR/LF switch, or load up your
- favourite text editor, set the margins, and print.
-
- A Word About Words...
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- The documentation files included in this distribution package use
- the gender neutral 'he', 'him', and 'his' to refer to the third person.

- THANKS GUYS!
-
- I would like to extend my thanks to MicroSoft Canada for getting
- the joke. :-) Thanks guys!
-
- I would also like to thank Bill "Billzo" Cassidy (Fido 1:249/1) for
- doing final tests and porting files for me. I remember a certain sysop
- who gave me a hand when I was one of his points, trying to setup a
- point system. Thanks Bill! (Oh, and Bill and I are the co-authors of
- the PCBoard Canadian Language eh? that has been ported to several other
- BBS software packages, but hasn't been done quite as well as we did it.
- <grin> ) So, like go out and get a copy eh?
