- Combat modes:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Action mode requires a player to use his/her own skills to determine whether
- the player scores a hit. The player's dexterity pads the error range.
-
- Random mode requires the computer to generate a random number which is
- then compared against a player's dexterity to determine whether a hit is
- scored. Random mode is often referred to as Statistical Mode.
-
- Persons using high speed modems that experience slow responses during Action
- Combat should use Random mode. Also, OOII games running under multi-tasking
- systems may cause slow response times during combat.
- {Action Expl}
- For Action Combat, the results of your character's battle relies on your
- own actual skill. Your character's dexterity will help you in your ability
- to be successful in Action Combat.
-
- You will be given a target letter in the range of 'A', 'B', or 'C'.
-
- A sequence of letters will be scrolling across your screen. The object is
- to hit your spacebar when you think the target letter will appear in the
- sequence. The sequence of letters will start with either "A","B", or "C"
- and continue in that order. For example, you will see the following lines
- print out during Action Combat:
-
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- Hit the spacebar at "A".
-
- ········AAA·······BBB·······CCC·······AAA·······BBB·······CCC·······
-
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- Since the randomly picked target letter is "A", hit your spacebar when
- the "A" letter appears on your screen during the sequence. If you press
- your spacebar within the letter range, you will hit your opponent. In
- more detail:
-
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- Hit the spacebar at "A". ("A" is the target letter!)
-
- ········AAA·······BBB·······CCC·······AAA·······BBB·······CCC·······
- ^^^ (spacebar!)
-
- [^^^^letter series^^^^^] [^^^series repeated^^^]
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- When the letters start to scroll across your screen, watch the first
- series of letters (in this case, AAA...BBB...CCC). That same exact series
- will repeat itself. The optimal time to hit spacebar is during this second
- series. Look above and see how the first series (AAA...BBB...CCC) is
- followed immediately by the same series (AAA...BBB...CCC). So watch the
- first series scroll across; determine where in the series you must hit the
- spacebar; hit the spacebar when the second series prints out.
-
- Of course, the sequence of letters may not necessarily start off with
- the letter 'A'. For example, if the sequence starts with the letter
- 'C', the complete sequence appears (in short form): C..A..B..C..A..B.
-
- Action Combat is not as hard as it is sounds, so don't give up trying!
- If you do end up frustrated, there is an option inside the Complex to
- practice your Action Combat skills without the threat of your character
- perishing. In the Barracks, go to the Games Room. Here, you can select
- SharpShooter to hone your skills and simulate Action Combat. Good luck!
