- 1BRIEF HISTORY:
- About March or so of this year, I got this weird idea to make an online
- and so then I thought about it, and finally got to work. Version 1.xx and
- 2.xx were written in QuickBASIC V4.0 and V4.5, respectively. Both of them
- were written for Telegard and WWIV. However. There were ALOT of problems.
- Mainly, they couldn't send anything over the modem. It was a "sometimes
- it works, sometimes it don't" type of thing. I dunno why that happened,
- but I got fed up with it and decided to work on it in Turbo C. Well, I
- finally finshed the thing. I have gone from 3.00 to 3.03, all with minor
- changes to make the game easier to play...
-
- 1REGISTRATION:
- This is mainly a note to SysOps, but so that the players know what happens
- if you should decide to register your copy.
-
- 3A:2 You will be able to send messages to other players.
- 3B:2 You are able to "recruit" soldiers from provinces that you own. More on
- this later.
- 3C:2 More "random events." More on this later too.
- 3D:2 A utility that will allow the SysOp to edit characters and the map.
-
- Okay, enough with all that muck...
-
- 5OBJECT:
- The ultimate goal which you must attain is to conquer each and every
- province on the map. The map is 10 x 10, or 100 provinces.
-
- 5BEGINNING:
- When you first got on, you had to make your account, and then it went
- through all these little screens: News, Messages, Income, and Food
- Consumption.
-
- 5NEWS:
- This screen will tell you of any important events which involve your
- armies in a battle of some kind. This means if someone had ATTACKED you,
- and your defending armies defeated the invading force. You could be
- DEFEATED, where you will no longer own the province, and will have to
- reclaim it. All armies guarding were destroyed. Then, ATTACKED AND FLED
- means that someone attacked you and after attacking for a certain number
- of rounds, they decided it was not to their advantage so they fled. You
- *probably* lost some armies, and they did as well.
- 5MESSAGES:
- This screen will tell you if you have any messages from other players.
- These are just short little notes, and there is no limit to how many you
- can get, except for hard drive space... Once you have read them, they will
- be deleted.
- 5INCOME:
- This screen will tell you how much money you have earned. This screen
- will only appear once a day, the first time that you play the game. Since
- moves are what limits how long you can play, if you have already played
- once in the day, you will not be given income again. Townes will add to
- your income [More on townes later].
- 5FOOD CONSUMPTION:
- Here is where you see how many armies and food you have. If you don't
- have enough food to feed all of you armies, then you will be unable to
- move very long - you will spend most of your time trying to keep your
- armies alive by hunting, picking berries, etc.
-
- 5MAIN MENU:
- Now you're at the main menu. Several commands are available from here.
- They are, Buy Soldiers, Documentation, Examine Map, Gamble Money, Move
- Armies, Purchase Food, Quit to BBS, Show Status, View Characters, and
- Expert Mode. Press the highlighted key in the brackets to activate the
- command.
-
- 5BUY SOLDIERS:
- There are several different types of soldiers which you can purchase.
- Also available here are weapons. Soldier types include: Fighters, Warriors,
- Swordsmen, Swashbucklers, Myrmiden, and Champions.
-
- 5FIGHTERS:
- These are slightly trained peasants. THey have probably not seen battle
- very often, and are equipped with short swords. They have only clothing
- as armor. They have an attack and defense value of 1, and cost 3 gold.
- 5WARRIORS:
- These infantry have seen the heat of battle at least once, and they
- yield short swords as do Fighters. However, they have more experience,
- and hit more often. They wear leather armor. The attack value of these
- soldiers is 2, the defense is the same, and the cost is 5.
- 5SWORDSMEN:
- Swordsmen are an irreplacable necesity in all armies. They have leather
- armor, a small shield, and a long sword. However, they are fairly strong
- and they have an attack value of 4. The defensive value is 4, and they
- cost 9 gold to hire.
- 5SWASHBUCKLERS:
- These are middle-men. They carry a strong long sword, and the wear a
- fervent suit of chainmail armor. They also have a shield of fair size.
- The attack and defensive value of these armies is 8, and they cost 17.
- 5MYRMIDEN:
- These are powerful soldiers, who can lead a dying army into battle - -
- and win. They will slay fighters with their great swords with no problem,
- and their platemail armor serves a great protection. They have an attack
- and defensive value of 16, and they cost 33 to hire in your party.
- 5CHAMPIONS:
- A champion is the ultimate killing machine. These highly trained
- soldiers are capable of slaying warriors with a light touch from their
- two handed sword. They will spread fear amongst the ranks of all your
- enemy, and the full platemail and large shield they have as protection
- makes them nearly invincible to attacks made by fighters, warriors, and
- swordsmen. They have an awesome attacking ability, which grants them a 32,
- and the defense is 32 as well. They are a steep 65 gold pieces for a
- single army in your party.
- 5WEAPONS:
- Any character can use these. Rather than it being an actual weapon,
- consider this more of a weapon quality type of modifier. These will easily
- turn the tide of battles, and can help fighters if you have enough, have
- the ability to slay a champion.
-
- 5DOCUMENTATION:
- You are reading this now.
-
- 5EXAMINE MAP:
- This will give you a colorized map of the world. The colors are coded with
- the terrain types, but, for those with monochrome, you will be able to
- figure out the terrain types. Those with color will also konw which places
- they own. The 6flashing province2 is where you are at currently. all bright
- purple provinces are owned and controlled by you. An example of a sector is
- 3=10. The 3 is the income. The 10 is sector number. There are five different
- types of terrain, Mountains, Jungles, Grassland, Forestry, and Rivers.
-
- 5MOUNTAINS:
- A mountains income is the greatest, at 7 per day. The defensive value of
- these places is high, as it is difficult for attackers to get in. The ore
- which is mined from here is often sold to townes.
- 5JUNGLES:
- These dreadful places have the worst income of 2, which is gotten by
- taxing those traveling through on, "safe" roads. The defensive value is
- the highest here than anywhere else.
- 5GRASSLAND:
- Grassland is the most common of all terrain types. they have a steady
- income of 4, but the grass doesn't serve as much protection.
- 5FORESTRY:
- Forests yield a 5 income, as the lumber is sold for a good profit. The
- defensive value is high, but Mountains possess a greater defense.
- 5RIVERS:
- Rivers have a 3 income, most of which comes from farrying people up and
- downstream. The defensive value of these is just above grassland.
-
- 5GAMBLE MONEY:
- Here is the way for the rich to get richer, and the poor to get poorer.
- It is not an astute choice to gamble unless you have a reputable name and
- lots of money. The game played here is a combination of craps and acey ducy.
- It costs 3 gold to play, which is added into a pot. The pot serves as the
- maximum bet. A dealer will roll two dice. The total of the two dice is now
- the point score, which you must attain when it is your turn to roll the
- dice. If you roll the point score, then you will be given whatever amount
- you bet out of the pot. If you lose, then the moeny os added to the pot,
- and then your opponent will roll. This continues until someone gives up, or
- the pot reaches zero. There are rumors of people being thrown out for
- trying to bet negative numbers, or parts of gold.
-
- 5MOVE ARMIES:
- This is where all of the action takes place. There are several commands
- which can be activated from here. First though, there will be a whole bunch
- of junk of the screen. Maily the owner, how much it's worth, what is
- guarding this place, and how many armies you have with you. The commands
- available from here are: Move North, Move South, Move East, Move West,
- Buy Castle, Change Guards, Examine Map, Purchase Town, Quit to Main,
- Recruit Soldiers [only if registered], and See Status.
-
- 5MOVEMENT:
- These will move you and your armies that are not guarding in the
- direction you chose. Should you walk off the map, you will loop around
- onto the other side. There are rumors of strange caverns and awkward
- people in the lands, so be careful, and take not everything for what it
- seems. [More events possible if registered]
- 5BUY CASTLE:
- This option costs 75 gold. However, castles dramatically increase the
- defensive value of the guards which are there. If you ever have more than
- 75 gold invested in a province, it is wise to get a castle.
- 5CHANGE GUARDS:
- This allows you to change the amount of people guarding the province.
- it will add together the armies that are guarding, and the armies which
- are traveling with you and let you decide how many you want to GUARD the
- province. The remaining ones will be put into your party.
- 5EXAMINE MAP:
- See function from Main Menu.
- 5PURCHASE TOWN:
- This costs 30 gold pieces. However, it is the money required to construct
- the necessary buildings and buy the necessary grants and all for a town to
- be created. These pay for themselves in a short amount of time. However,
- if they are taken over, the owner will change to, so make sure that they
- are well defended.
- 5QUIT TO MAIN:
- This drops you to the Main Menu.
- 5RECRUIT SOLDIERS: [Only if registered]
- This function will be a great aid to all players. For the cost of eight
- moves, you are able to search through your land for wandering soldiers and
- try to persuade them into joining your party.
- 5SHOW STATUS:
- See Show Status from Main Menu.
-
- Should you ever enter a zone which you do not own, you will be given these
- possible options: Attack, Retreat, and Message to Player [Only if
- registered].
-
- 5ATTACK:
- This puts your armies against theirs. You will be shown the results of
- the battle after each round (a round is after everyone has had a single
- chance to attack). If you win, you will be given the castle (if any), and
- the town (if any), as well as new income, and the player who owned this
- province will be given a little note saying that you trashed them. If you
- lose, then you will have to retreat, and he will be told that you attacked
- him, but didn't win. If you entirely destroy all of one person, you will
- br granted five experience, and any gold which he had with him.
- 5RETREAT:
- This will have you retreat to previous square. If you do not ever start
- attacking, the person will never know that you were there. If you retreat
- after starting an attack, then he will be informed that you attacked and
- ran.
- 5MESSAGE TO PLAYER: [Only if Registered]
- This will allow you to send a message to the player who currently owns
- the province. If it is not controlled by a player, then this option is
- disabled. There is no limit to how many messages you may send, but each
- one must be ilke 55 characters or less.
-
- 5PURCHASE FOOD:
- Food is another aspect of this game which will probably get you killed.
- If you ever play when you don't have enough food, you will be greatly
- slowed down. Food is cheap, ad it STARTS at 15 food for one gold. As you
- gain experience, you will notice that the will give you more food for one
- gold.
-
- 5QUIT TO BBS:
- Select this option to save and return to the BBS.
-
- 5SHOW STATUS:
- This is a listing of everything which you have acquired and many of them.
-
- 5VIEW CHARACTERS:
- This will give you a listing of all of the current players. It will show
- you the income, how many armies in the realm the player has, and what the
- players score is.
- The score is composed of a group of attributes, but the main contributer
- is armies. Income, weapons, experience, level, and gold onhand also play
- roels in calculating this. And, obviously, a Champion is worth a hell uv a
- lot more score than a fighter is.
-
- 5EXPERT MODE:
- This wil just make the menus be real short, so you don't have to wait
- five hours for your 300 baud modem to print out the full menu.
