  11. This archive consists of 3 files:

  13. GWAR.ZIP     - This is the Global War door game.
  14. GWIBBS30.ZIP - This is the optional InterBBS add-on package. (Requires a
  15.                registered copy of Global War 3.0).
  16. HOF30.ZIP    - This is the optional Hall of Fame utility.

  18. IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANY PREVIOUS VERSION OF GLOBAL WAR:

  20. Your existing games will continue uninterrupted, and you can enjoy the
  21. new features of Global War 3.0 if you follow these steps:
  22.  
  23. 1. Go into your Global War subdirectory and save a backup copy of your
  24.    WAR.CFG file and the batch file that you use to run Global War (print
  25.    them, rename them, copy them to some other directory, whichever you
  26.    prefer).

  28. 2. Copy (replace) all of the files in your Global War subdirectory with
  29.    the new ones contained in GWAR.ZIP.
  30.  
  31. 3. Edit the new WAR.CFG file that came with this version of Global War
  32.    using your old copy as an example.  Re-enter your registration code,
  33.    BBS name, and make any other changes as desired. Several new options
  34.    have been added. Be sure and set the new options as desired. Detailed
  35.    explanations for the new options can be found at the end of the new
  36.    WAR.CFG file. DO NOT try to use your old WAR.CFG file or you'll get
  37.    runtime errors and may even lose data!

  39. 4. If you were using an earlier version of the Hall of Fame Utility, you
  40.    must upgrade it to the latest version included in this archive. See
  41.    HOF30.ZIP.
  42.  
  43. 5. Most of the data file formats have changed in this version. You
  44.    should delete any ranking utilities, game editors, or any other
  45.    utilities and replace them with utilities known to support Global War
  46.    3.0.
  47.  
  48. 6. Delete WINNERS.WAR and HOF.DAT if they exist.  Winners.War holds the
  49.    current scores. HOF.DAT holds the Hall of Fame names and dates. You
  50.    will lose all your current scores and hall of fame data if you delete
  51.    these files. It is possible to fix these files so that they will work
  52.    with Global War 3.0 if you are willing to edit the files. To fix
  53.    them, add BBS names and change the years to 4 digits as shown in
  54.    these examples. The BBS name must match EXACTLY with the BBS name
  55.    that will be on line 62 of your WAR.CFG file.

  72. INTERBBS UTILITY

  74. If you are interested in setting up an InterBBS network, unzip and
  75. examine the files in GWIBBS30.ZIP.  Be aware that InterBBS games are not
  76. compatible with Non-InterBBS games. You cannot mix the two together in
  77. the same directory, so if you want to join an InterBBS network at some
  78. later date, you will have to delete all your present games or install a
  79. second copy of Global War in another directory. Global War InterBBS
  80. requires a registered copy of Global War.

  82. HALL OF FAME UTILITY
  83. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  84. This optional utility is HIGHLY recommended.  If you are not in an
  85. InterBBS network, I urge you to install HOF right away.  In an InterBBS
  86. network, the Hall of Fame utility is only used on the Hub - see the docs
  87. in GWIBBS30.ZIP for details.
