  18.   Paradox's report generator  does not directly support attributes,
  19.   such  as  bold,  underlining,  or  different  fonts,  in reports.
  20.   However, you can manipulate the printer to change to one of these
  21.   styles in the middle of a report.   The  following  are  two ways
  22.   this can be accomplished.

  24.      1.  When in the report  generator,  place  a  calculated field
  25.          that holds the printer control string as well as the field
  26.          or string that you  wish  to affect.  For instance, to set
  27.          compressed print for a report title, the  calculated field
  28.          might be:

  30.          "\015" + "Sample Report Heading" + "\018"
  31.             ^                                  ^
  32.             |                                  |
  33.          Compressed On                  Compressed Off
  34.  
  35.          On an IBM Graphics printer or compatible, this string will
  36.          print this heading in compressed  print,  and  then change
  37.          the print back to regular print for printing  the  rest of
  38.          the report.  The printer  control  codes  are,  of course,
  39.          specific to the individual printer and should  be obtained
  40.          from the printer manual.  Also, remember that a calculated
  41.          field in Paradox has a maximum length of 48 characters
  42.  
  43.      2.  You can also use the  PAL TYPEIN Command to change printer
  44.          characteristics.    To  do  this,  while  in   the  report
  45.          generator at the point where  you wish the title to begin,
  46.          press  <ALT-F10>  to  access  the  PAL  menu   and  select
  47.          Miniscript.  Then type:

  49.          TYPEIN "\015" + Sample Report Heading" + "\018"
  50.  
  51.          This  will print the heading in the  same  manner  as  the
  52.          first example.  Keep  in  mind that the command line has a
  53.          maximum length of 51 characters.    Be  certain  to always
  54.          restore the regular report attributes  back  to  normal at
  55.          the end of the  string  you wish to emphasize, as with the
  56.          illustrative string, "\018".

  58.   Both of these methods may change the spacing of other data on the
  59.   line,  so  you'll  need to insert and delete spaces as necessary.
  60.   You should print a "trial" report to test the new attributes.
