-
- WHAT IS CCLAUNCH?
- -------------------
-
- CCLAUNCH is used to launch Command & Conquer without having all those
- different, and hard to manage, batchprograms for C&C. This program contains
- all - I hope - that you could ever need, when starting C&C.
-
- CCLAUNCH takes control off both your CD-ROM version and your Harddisk
- version of Command & Conquer (if you have one). It supports The Covert
- Operations and the Untamed Land levels, if you have invested in The Covert
- Operations. It also supports CCMOVIES.
-
- CCLAUNCH handles 9900 extra multiplayer-maps, 15840 extra singleplayer-maps
- (if you have COVERT OPERATIONS), and up to 99 extra GAME.DAT's.
-
- CCLAUNCH compresses almost all C&C files, to make you save A LOT of disk-
- space.
-
- All the potentials of CCLAUNCH you can figure out when changing CCLAUNCH.INI
- to fit your system, reading this document, and when running CCLAUNCH!
-
-
- FILELIST

-
-
- COMMAND & CONQUER DIRECTORY STRUCTURE
- ---------------------------------------
-
- This is an outcast to how you can place your C&C versions and data:
-
- C&C-C&CCDROM (CD-ROM Installation)
- -C&CHDISK-CDROM-AUD1 (HD Installation - CDROM files directory* - AUD1**)
- -C&CDATA-NOD (NOD general.mix-file and savegames)
- -GDI (GDI general.mix-file and savegames)
- -COV (Covert Operations general.mix-file and savegames)
- -GAMEDATS (Game.dat-files and descriptions)
- -MULTIMAP-COLL1
- ....
- -COLL99 (1-99 subdirs with 1-99 multiplayer maps)
- -SINGLMAP-COLL1
- ....
- -COLL99 (1-99 subdirs with 1-99 singleplayer missions)
-
- * AUD.MIX
- CONQUER.MIX
- DESERT.MIX
- GENERAL.MIX
- (MOVIES.MIX)
- (SCORES.MIX)
- (SETUP.MIX)
- SOUNDS.MIX
- TEMPERAT.MIX
-
- ** SPEECH.MIX
-
- NB! The files in () you can leaveout.
-
- If you do not have a harddisk version, you can leave out C&CHDISK.
- If you only have a CD-ROM version, and don't want to seperate your savegames
- or your multiplayermaps, you can leave out C&CDATA and sub-directories.
- If you do not have Covert Operations, you can leave out COV.
- If you do not have more than 100 multiplayer maps, you can leave out MULTIMAP
- (+subs).
- If you do not have more than 160 singleplayer missions (80 of each side), you
- can leave out SINGLMIS (+subs).
-
- To save space you can use your CD-ROM version as a harddisk version, just
- remember to keep the CDROM and AUD1 directories. You can also copy the
- contents of the CDROM directory to the harddisk dir. and leave it out.
-
-
- "Harddisk version" is a version of C&C, which is fooled to run without the
- CD's. This is useful when you play multiplayer games with your friends,
- meaning;
- - You never forget your C&C CD-ROMS at home (happens a LOT!)
- - Runs/launches faster (always a great thing)
- - Now you are able to listen to your new audio-CD's when playing (instead of
- the music in C&C which gets "old" very fast (If you buy The Covert Ops you
- get new soundtracks!)
-
- Of course when you play single, you want the cool movie-sequences, so here
- the CD-version is prefered.
-
-
- This is how my files are organised:
-
- C&C-C&CBOTH-AUD1
- -C&CDATA-NOD
- -GDI
- -COV
- -GAMEDATS
- -MULTIMAP-COLL1
- -COLL2
- -COLL3
- -COLL4
- -SINGLMIS-COLL1
-
-
-
- INSTALLING CCLAUNCH
- ---------------------
-
- Unzip the archive into a seperate directory and add the directory to your
- path, or unzip it into your batch-directory or any other directory that you
- have a path to (e.g. DOS/WINDOWS).
-
- Make sure you also have a path to PKZIP and PKUNZIP.
-
- To take advanage of all the potentials of CCLAUNCH, create a directory-
- structure like the one described in the chapter above.
-
- Edit the CCLAUNCH.INI file to fit your system.
-
- You can make collections of multiplayer maps, by copying your maps to the
- MULTIMAP directories COLL1-COLL99 (f.i. you can have your own maps in one
- COLL and CCPACK installed in another COLL!). Remember to enter descriptions
- in MULTIMAP.DES!
-
- Copy your original GAME.DAT file to the GAMEDATS-directory.
- If you have any other GAME.DATS, copy them there too, and rename them to
- GAME1.DAT-GAME99.DAT. Remember to enter descriptions of the GAME.DATs in
- GAMEDATS.DES!
-
- If you enable the "Seperate Savegames" feature, move your NOD-savegames to
- the NOD-subdirectory, GDI-savegames to the GDI-subdirectory, and if you have
- installed The Covert Operations, move your COVERT-savegames to the COV-
- subdirectory.
- This feature also allows new missions, in form of savegames, to be seperated,
- so you don't start f.i. a GDI mission with the NOD general.mix (harddisk ver.)
-
- CCLAUNCH works perfectly with CCMOVIES, just copy the CCMOVIES.ZIP-file to
- your C&C CDROM version directory.
-
- If you want to save A LOT of diskspace you can enable packing of virtually
- anything. All you have to do, is set some or all of the #Compress...=yes in
- the CCLAUNCH.INI file. Before you do this, take in mind that packing gives
- more disk space, but de-compressing takes time.
- Take a look at this example: I had 81 multiplayer maps in one of my COLLs,
- that's 162 files, all taking up 32.768 bytes (that's my allocation-unit size!).
- A total of 5.308.416 Megabytes! By compressing them I got one file taking up
- only 393.216 bytes. I saved 4.915.200 bytes, which is 92.59 percent! Pretty
- good if I may say so.
- In some cases it is actually faster to unzip a file, than copy it.
-
- Load SMARTDRV (or similar) to improve performance! If you don't do this, it
- will take hours to launch C&C using CCLAUNCH.
- (In AUTOEXEC.BAT: LH SMARTDRV.EXE /Q 512 0)
-
-
- RUNNING CCLAUNCH FOR THE FIRST TIME
- -------------------------------------
-
- Use a program like CC.BAT to launch CCLAUNCH. Don't run CCLAUNCH.EXE as this
- is only the interface, it won't start C&C!
- You can use CCLAUNCH.BAT, but it's easier the type 'cc' that 'cclaunch.bat'
- (NB! Windows 95 doesn't run batch-programs before COM and EXE files!)
-
- Copy CC.BAT to your batch directory or similar, and edit the drive and path
- in it, to fit the location of CCLAUNCH.
-

- FINAL NOTES
- -------------
-
- CCLAUNCH is NOT shareware! You DO NOT have to pay any money to use this
- program! Even though I used a lot of time inventing, designing and creating it,
- I cannot charge any money (donations are welcome though).
-
- I am NOT to blame for any damage caused by using CCLAUNCH directly or
- indirectly! Now don't be alerted, as I can't see any way that CCLAUNCH should
- be able to damage anything!!!
-
- CCLAUNCH was at the begining not intended to be spread. I made it to ease MY
- launching of C&C when playing with my friends. But the program quickly got more
- and more advanced, and I finally decided to make a spreadable version.
-
- If you think that this document is a big mess, then you are absolutely right!
-
- This new third version of CCLAUNCH is not hard to get to work, as CCLAUNCH
- detects almost all mistakes you can possible make, and reports them.
