  7. GAME DESCRIPTION:
  8. For avid players, Championship Spades v6.2 is an exciting card game that
  9. features rich sounds, good layout, fast play, a MIDI jukebox of songs,
  10. autoresume, and help with tutorials.  Play your favorite variations such
  11. as Jokers, Swap, Blind, Suicide, and Cut.  The polished interface is unique
  12. in using 8 customizable personalities that adapt and learn.  Choose from 14
  13. decks, 15 tables, and 104 sounds.  Evaluate free for 30 days.  <ASP>

  15. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  16. MIN: Pentium, 24MB memory, 8MB disk space, mouse, 256-color video.
  17. PREFER: Pentium MMX, 32MB memory, 16MB disk, Wave-table sound card.
  18. spades32 is a 32-bit program that only works on Windows 95, 98, and NT.

  20. HIGHLIGHTS OF IMPROVEMENTS IN THE 6.1 AND 6.2 RELEASES:
  21. 1. Over 50 bid and 90 play improvements, many regarding Nil play.
  22. 2. Added blind bids 5 and 8 for both computer and human players.
  23. 3. Added Mirror, Suidice, and Navy Team variations.
  24. 4. Added 'profiles' so all game settings are now autorestored by name.
  25. 5. Textual taunts are now displayed if sound unavailable or disabled.
  26. 6. 'Throw pie' option now available on main menu.
  27. 7. Delay range increased and smoothness of play improved.
  28. 8. Startup/shutdown file sounds now faster and clearer.
  29. 9. Some obscure trickcard/hand drawing problems fixed.
  30. 10. Reminder dialog now shows a random benefit & nags are less annoying.
  31. 11. New statistics added and bid/taken now shown on hand analysis.
  32. 12. Improved MIDI jukebox operation, including 45 more songs.
  33. 13. Added support for importing and exporting desktop 'themes'.

  43. UPGRADES:
  44. We highly recommend that people upgrading from older versions first 
  45. uninstall the previous version.  Even if you uninstall, your name, 
  46. statistics, and register key will be automatically transferred over.

  48. INSTALLATION FROM A SELF-EXTRACTING ZIP (EXE) FILE:
  49. Simply double-click on the EXE.  Select Setup and then specify the 
  50. directory to install.  After installation, the game will create an icon
  51. and allow you to start playing.  You can now safely delete spades32.exe
  52. to conserve disk space.  If you have problems extracting and installing,
  53. try unzipping the EXE first using WinZip or Pkunzip and then follow the
  54. diskette installation instructions below.

  56. INSTALLATION FROM SETUP DIRECTORY OR DISKETTES:
  57. Run setup.exe and follow the prompts to install.  You can specify your
  58. own installation directory and group, if you desire.  You also specify
  59. the type and size of the installation you desire: minimum (no sounds),
  60. custom, or full (recommended).

  62. 7 QUICK TIPS FOR GOOD LUCK:
  63. 1. Change game speed and enable autoplay under Options...General menu.
  64. 2. Quickly set the level of opponents using the Difficulty menu.
  65. 3. Learn using the undo and rebid/play options under the Practice menu.
  66. 4. View your opponent's playing styles by clicking on their face.
  67. 5. Tryout the 300+ variations (Cutthroat, Blinds, Suicide, Swap, leads)
  68. 6. Use the keyboard number keys to quickly bid and play.
  69. 7. Use Shift-Ctrl-B (boss key) to quickly minimize and turn off sound. 
  70.    Use Shift-Ctrl-N or option menu to skip to the next soundtrack. 
  71.    Use Shift-Ctrl-P to have the computer play itself for a whole game!
  72.    Use popup menu 'Throw pie' command to vent out your frustrations!

  75. This game is NOT freeware.  The author has spent a great deal of time
  76. making a quality Spades game.  If you have enjoyed this, please register
  77. so you can help fund improvements.  You have 30 days to evaluate this
  78. game and either register it or uninstall it.

  90. HOW TO UNINSTALL:
  91. To uninstall, use Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs
  92. and select Championship Spades.  If standard uninstall fails, you may
  93. just delete the Spades directory manually.  If you are using the 
  94. autosave function, your save games will not be uninstalled.  You can
  95. manually delete the Championship Spades directory if you do not want
  96. these files after you have used the uninstall program.
