- MagicWB Dock-Images
- -------------------
-
- In this directory you can find lots of Dock-Images for the use with
- ToolManager (from Stefan Becker) or any other toolmanager-like program
- supporting Docks.
-
- These Dock-Images were painted highly detailed and accurate. To achieve
- this I decided to design these Dock-Images in a bigger size than normal
- Icons, and they should be nearly square, so that vertical and horizontal
- Docks appear similar. The images might appear too big for people using
- resolutions like 640x480, although I don't think they are. Best results
- will be achieved by using resolutions of 800x600 and higher. As these
- resolutions will surely be standard in the near future of the AMIGA, the
- images exactly have the right size: Not too small and very detailed.
- (So far about this point. I carefully mentioned this to avoid getting
- reports saying "The Dock-Images are too big!") :-)
-
- I tried to cover all commonly used applications. Again: Dock-Images are not
- meant to be used for small utilities but for big applications. Should you
- seriously discover that this collection is lacking a Dock-Image for a
- commonly used application, feel free to report it to me.
-
- I am proud to say that my Dock-Images only take 1230 bytes of memory for
- each one. This was done on purpose because I hate Docks that take too much
- memory and also need too much time to be loaded at booting up the system.
- The restriction: The Dock-Images are brushes, NOT Icons, and they don't have
- a second (pressed) image. I think this is a very fine compromise.
-
- Just imagine I had designed them as Icons with alternate imagery: Each Dock-
- Image would have allocated 8000 bytes of memory! If you defined a Dock with
- 14 Dock-Images (typical amount of commonly used Dock-Images) it would have
- allocated 112 KB (!) of precious chip memory and the loading procedure of
- the Dock-Images at startup would have been 7 times (!) longer than with the
- actual Dock-Images.
-
- The actual ones would only allocate 17 KB of memory.
-
- Besides, I don't think that a second image is necessary for Dock-Images. So
- I hope you understand this compromise and agree that a second image is
- unnecessary.
-
-
-
- HINT: A time-saving way to implement the Dock-Images into ToolManager:
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- You can save a lot of time by using the Demo-Dock 'MagicWB-Docks'. This
- Dock already includes all image-objects and the dock-definitions. You just
- need to define the Exec-Objects (unless you have already defined some) and
- rearrange the Docks. That's all! This will save you a lot of time!
-
- If you have already defined your personal Exec-Objects and other objects
- in your actual ToolManager-Prefs, you can simply add the MagicWB-Docks-
- Prefs to your prefs by loading it via the APPEND function of ToolManager.
-
- To make this facility possible, you should use the Installer of MagicWB.
- The brushes should already be copied to SYS:Prefs/MagicWB-Images and the
- MagicWB: assign should also be added to your User-Startup. If not, you have
- probably told the Installer to not install the Docks when you first
- installed MagicWB. Then just update MagicWB by activating the Installer
- again and tell him to install the Docks when he asks for it (You can update
- MagicWB as often as you want. Nothing will be overwritten).
-
- After these preparations you will have beautiful, amazing Docks on your
- Workbench without having invested much time in it.
-
- YOU WILL BE THE ENVY OF ALL MS-DOS- AND APPLE-USERS!!! :-)
-
-
- After this small discussion about the new MagicWB-Docks I would like to wish
- you many happy hours with your magic Workbench!
-
- Best regards,
-
