- PhotoworX program release notes
- ===============================
-
- This file contains late breaking news on `PhotoworX' which were not
- available at the time when the manual was in print.
- Please read the following list of notes before using `PhotoworX' in
- order to avoid trouble with the program.
-

-
- · What can be done if `PhotoworX' cannot open a screen upon first
- startup?
-
- When started for the first time `PhotoworX' tries to open a custom
- screen of the same size as the Workbench screen. If little memory is
- available this attempt may fail, especially if the Workbench screen
- dimensions happens to be very large. In this case we recommend to
- reduce the size of the screen, namely the `graphics overscan
- settings' until `PhotoworX' succeeds in opening the screen.
-
- · What can be done if `PhotoworX' fails to open a window?
-
- The user interface employed by `PhotoworX' scales windows and
- controls according to the user interface font. Even though the
- interface will `fall back' to a smaller system font if required a
- large user interface font can still cause trouble (the window drag
- bar will always use the screen title font -- no matter how tall it
- is). In this case we recommend that you change the user interface
- font to a smaller point size.
-
- · What can be done if `PhotoworX' fails to recognize the installed
- graphics card viewer modules?
-
- In order to use a graphics card viewer module certain conditions
- must be met:
-
- 1. Picasso II graphics card
-
- The so-called `segmented mode' requires Picasso software revision
- v2.0 or higher to be installed.
-
- 2. Retina graphics card
-
- The Retina software revision v1.4 or higher is required.
-
- 3. EGS graphics system
-
- The EGS driver libraries are required. The colour modes (1..24
- bits per pixel) and resolutions are defined by the underlying
- hardware.
-
- 4. Amiga HAM display mode
-
- The HAM8 mode (262,144 available colours) can be used only with
- Amiga machines which have the AGA graphics chip set installed,
- namely the A1200 and the A4000.
-
- 5. DCTV hardware
-
- The "dctv.library" v3.0 or higher is required to use this viewer
- module.
-
- · When using a Retina screen image colours become corrupted.
-
- We know of certain incompatibilities between the Retina Intuition
- emulation v1.4 which cause screens to use more than 16 colours to be
- opened in the wrong resolutions. This affects the colour palette
- which, although the screen should show all requested colours, is
- limited to 16 colours only. As a consequence, we recommend that you
- do not use the so-called `AGA emulation' or `extra colours' the
- emulation driver supports.
-
- · What can be done if the CD-ROM filing system crashes or `locks up'
- whilst trying to read the contact sheet?
-
- Some CD-ROM filing systems are reported to fail when reading the
- contact sheet, they usually stop at the last image. The result often
- is a SCSI bus-lockup or a system crash. Such filing systems fail to
- work correctly with the asynchronous file I/O operations `PhotoworX'
- uses in order to speed up the file decoding process (referred to in
- the manual as `caching'). In order to disable the caching feature,
- use the `NOCACHE' icon tool type/shell parameter (please refer to
- the manual chapter entitled `Icon tool types and shell parameters'
- for more information). File I/O operations may be slightly slower,
- though.
