- Oh joy of joys! Another doc by Randy! 7 August, 1993
-
-
- FileDel is a command line file deleter for MAXsBBS.
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- It runs from either the command line or from a directory utility (I use it
- from DirWork). If you run it from a dir util, I'd suggest that you set it
- up so that it has an output window to write to ... otherwise confusion may
- result!
-
- It will search the BBS to make sure the file's there (and not already
- deleted); assuming that's OK, it will try to delete the file from the
- disk. Once it is physically deleted, it will mark the file as a deleted
- file in file.data and file.index and, if the BBS is running (it doesn't
- have to be), it will also tell the BBS about the file's status.
-
- As the file has, by now, actually been deleted off the disk, don't try to
- undelete it in the files editor - it can't work!
-
- Note that the file's name still appears in the file.data and file.index
- until you open the files editor and select Save (it's shown as deleted of
- course, so doesn't appear to a remote user).
-
- It takes as argument either a questionmark (to show usage - try that
- function - you'll love it!) or the file name to be deleted.
-
- The file name can have the full file path (if you're not logged into the
- directory, it had better or the file won't be found to delete!) if you
- want - any path is removed when searching for the name in the BBS file
- lists.
-
- I've tried it out quite a bit and it seems quite stable ... but as with
- anything like this, it's safer to use it only when noone's online *OR*
- they are safely tucked away in the message base and won't be touching the
- files while you are.
-
-
- This programme was, of course, written in HiSoft Basic for speed. It's
- damn fast!
-
-
- Any comments etc, please lemme know. Also any large HD's (one Gb or more
- will do) - second hand is OK, as long as they work. Or large (over $1)
- sums of money would be nice, as I'm putting my poor old Granny through
- school, working 5 jobs and haven't eaten anything but gravel in weeks. (it
- wasn't exactly *FRESH* gravel either I might add). Not that I'm
- complaining, mind you - she really does need an education - it's just that
- I don't understand why she had to wait until she was 97 to start getting
- one is all... Oh, and the dog is sick too, so the Vet has taken over our
- house as we couldn't pay the $120 fee (laff's on him though - the bank
- really owns the house! It's such a structural mess that they pay us to
- live in it, and we also get to keep all the money we charge the trainee
- building inspectors to look at it ... it's not often these days that you
- see a suburban house with the time-honoured "Bucket-In-Lounge" toilet
- facilities)
