- Introduction to UltraPlayer
- ----------------------------
- Welcome to UltraPlayer v1.1. UltraPlayer is a program to play music
- modules. Music modules are created by various programs that employ
- different techniques that create stunning soundtracks with your Amiga.
- UltraPlayer is designed to play 18 types of modules from 14 different
- programs. It will play almost any module you can find. And you can
- find them just about anywhere. You can rip them from games, download
- them from your local BBS, or create them yourself.
-
- What UltraPlayer Can Play
- ---------------------------
- UltraPlayer v1.1 can play any of the following music module types
- (powerpacked or not):
-
- David Whittaker Music
- DeltaMusic v2.0
- FutureComposer v1.3
- FutureComposer v1.4
- JamCracker Pro
- Mark II Music System
- NoiseTracker v1.1 and up
- NoiseTracker Packed v1.3 and up
- SidMon v1.0 (3 strains)
- SoundMonitor v2.0
- SoundTracker v1.0-v2.2 (15 Samples)
- SoundTracker v2.3-v2.5 (31 Samples)
- StarTrekker v1.2 and up
- StarTrekker AM v1.2 and up
-
- There will be more added in the future so watch for further releases
- of UltraPlayer. And now, the usage of UltraPlayer.
-
- Using UltraPlayer
- ------------------
- UltraPlayer is very easy to use. You must have the req.library and
- the powerpacker.library in your LIBS: directory. These are required for
- UltraPlayer to function properly. UltraPlayer will not run from WorkBench,
- execute UltraPlayer from the CLI.
-
- MultiTasking
- -------------
- UltraPlayer is a fully multitasking program. If you'd like to do
- something else while playing music with UltraPlayer, 'run' it from the
- CLI. UltraPlayer uses very little CPU time and shouldn't slow anything
- down to any great extent. UltraPlayer should run on an A3000. (I wouldn't
- know though :-)
-
- Selecting a Module
- -------------------
- UltraPlayer uses the standard Dawson/Fox req.library file requester.
- Find the file you want, select it and click on 'OK'. UltraPlayer will
- then procceed to load the module and, if it is powerpacked, it will
- decrunch it.
-
- Once it is finished loading and decrunching it will then identify the
- module. Most modules have a unique word or set of numbers within, that
- will not be found anywhere else. UltraPlayer will try to identify
- which kind of module it is and then proceed to play the module.
-
- UltraPlayer is somewhat intelligent and when a module cannot be readily
- recognized, it will try to compare the general structure to that of a
- SoundTracker module and if it is successful, it will then attempt to play
- it as a SoundTracker module.
-
- When a module is played a window opens announcing the name of the module,
- the program it was created with and the length of the module. There
- are two gadgets labelled 'RESTART' and 'STOP'.
-
- RESTART Gadget
- ---------------
- The restart button will start the module from the beginning again,
- this function is disabled while playing a David Whittaker module.
-
- STOP Gadget
- ------------
- The stop button will halt all music and return to the file requester.
- You then begin the cycle over again.
-
- T.F.M.X. Editor Modules
- ------------------------
- T.F.M.X. modules come in two halves, one containing the music data and
- the other containing all of the instrument samples. To load a T.F.M.X.
- module, both files must be in the same path. When loading, select the
- 'mdat.' file and UltraPlayer will automatically load the 'smpl.' file.
- Modules created with the T.M.F.X. Editor have the unique feature of
- multiple songs. When a T.F.M.X. module is loaded, the 'RESTART' gadget
- is replaced with two others, 'NEXT' and 'PREVIOUS'. While the module
- is playing you have the ability to swith songs with these gadgets.
- Each module may contain up to 32 songs and not all modules use all 32
- of them. If you play an empty song you won't hear anything.
-
- Exiting UltraPlayer
- -------------------
- When you are finished with UltraPlayer, click on 'FORGET IT!' or the
- close button at the top left-hand corner of the file requester.
-
