- ±b3 V-FAST STANDARD×

- ±b3 IS ON THE WAY×

- from Courier
-
- ±41Talk is cheap as they say. And there
- is plenty of talk about the new V.Fast
- standard. U.S Robotics has turned
- talk into action with an offer which
- is hard to beat. Until the 30th
- September 1993 anyone who bought a
- courier V.32bis or HST Dual Standard
- modem will be able to secure their
- upgrade to the new ITU - TS (formerly
- CCITT) 28.8kbps V.Fast standard for
- just 99 English pounds. Customers
- will receive an upgrade certificate
- which can be redeemed for an upgrade
- when the new standard comes out in
- late `93 or early `94. All the
- customer has to do is fill in the
- warranty card and return it to U.S
- Robotics. They will then be
- registered on the programme. When
- they choose to upgrade they simply
- call ±43USR±41 and arrange a convenient date
- to return the modem for upgrade. The
- offer represents a saving of over 100
- English pounds on the list price for a
- V.Fast upgrade and reinforces the
- courier product as a platform for
- V.Fast.
-
- Well... if you ask me, I say that the
- upgrade is a fucking lot of money,
- (the upgrade is about the size of an
- action replay!) but then again, it
- DOES make a huge difference to the
- speed of your modem. USR stand to
- make a ±22MASSIVE ±41profit out of this one,
- but not until its launch, which is
- more likely to be in late `94 than
- late `93. So... it`ll be a good few
- months before we see the new standard
- on BBS`s. Sysops had better start
- saving up! Unless you have just
- purchased your modems and can make use
- of the upgrade discount, to upgrade a
- BBS with 4 nodes (seperate modems) is
- going to cost around 800 uk pounds!
