  11. is plenty of talk about the new V.Fast
  12. standard.   U.S  Robotics  has  turned
  13. talk  into  action with an offer which
  14. is  hard  to  beat.   Until  the  30th
  15. September  1993  anyone  who  bought a
  16. courier  V.32bis  or HST Dual Standard
  17. modem  will  be  able  to secure their
  18. upgrade  to the new ITU - TS (formerly
  19. CCITT)  28.8kbps  V.Fast  standard for
  20. just  99  English  pounds.   Customers
  21. will  receive  an  upgrade certificate
  22. which  can  be redeemed for an upgrade
  23. when  the  new  standard  comes out in
  24. late   `93  or  early  `94.   All  the
  25. customer  has  to  do  is  fill in the
  26. warranty  card  and  return  it to U.S
  27. Robotics.     They    will   then   be
  28. registered  on  the  programme.   When
  29. they  choose  to  upgrade  they simply
  30. call ±43USR±41 and arrange a convenient date
  31. to  return the modem for upgrade.  The
  32. offer  represents a saving of over 100
  33. English pounds on the list price for a
  34. V.Fast   upgrade  and  reinforces  the
  35. courier  product  as  a  platform  for
  36. V.Fast.

  38. Well...  if you ask me, I say that the
  39. upgrade  is  a  fucking  lot of money,
  40. (the  upgrade  is about the size of an
  41. action  replay!)  but  then  again, it
  42. DOES  make  a  huge  difference to the
  43. speed  of  your  modem.   USR stand to
  44. make a ±22MASSIVE ±41profit out of this one,
  45. but  not  until  its  launch, which is
  46. more  likely  to  be  in late `94 than
  47. late  `93.  So...  it`ll be a good few
  48. months  before we see the new standard
  49. on  BBS`s.   Sysops  had  better start
  50. saving   up!   Unless  you  have  just
  51. purchased your modems and can make use
  52. of  the upgrade discount, to upgrade a
  53. BBS  with 4 nodes (seperate modems) is
  54. going  to  cost  around 800 uk pounds!
