  12.     some facts and news from the COMPUTER'95 expo held in Cologne 10-12.11.95.

  19.     First of all there will be enough new Amiga 1200 and - in the beginning of the
  20.     comming year - Amiga 4000T, too.
  21.     At the moment there are NO plans existing about new Amiga models to be developed,
  22.     because A.T. has NOT the money to pay for new developments. First of all they want
  23.     to have a look on the market in order to see, if the Amiga will be still accepted
  24.     or not. Seems to be a dark future for our little silicon-girlfriend but hold on
  25.     and go on reading about PPC support !!

  28.     AmigaOS 4.0 :

  31.     Yes, you read right! A.T. is planning to push up the existing OS 3.1 with some
  32.     new features and of course bug-fixing.
  33.     The A.T. employee told something about better support for graphic cards, faster
  34.     OS routines and lotsa of new version of libs, datatypes etc. .
  35.     Should be released somewhere around february '96.

  38.     PPC support :

  41.     Yes, yes !! When walking around the expo I noticed a little board inside a glass-
  42.     box entitled as MC68030/PPC Hybridcard.
  43.     Phase 5, the high quality german hardware wizards well known for products like
  44.     Fastlane Z3, Cyberstorm, Cybervision etc., have already started developing a
  45.     PowerPC-based processor-board to be released in the mid of 1996.
  46.     Let me quote some parts from an info-sheet spread at Phase5 stall:

  48.     " The low cost PPC board will be shipped with a MPC603e 100++MHz cpu, the high end
  49.       processor card will come with a MPC604 running at 100MHZ and - when available -
  50.       even with higher speeds at 150++ MHz. Furthermore there are more powerful
  51.           processors like the real 64-bit MCP620 running with 300MHz in development.
  52.       Even 64-Bit memoryexpansioncards and a new 64-bit local bus-system with optional
  53.       PCI-bridge should become reality on Amiga. The PPC card will first be available
  54.       for A1200 - A3000 - A4000 with prices at 1000 german marks for the light and 2000,-
  55.       german marks for the high-end version.

  57.       Furthermore Phase5 will rewrite the Amiga's execcore as PPC native code to gain
  58.       maximum performance. CybergraphX will get add-ons for multimedia and other graphic-
  59.       oriented applications. Furthermore softwaredevelopers should get the possibility
  60.       to produce highquality software running on EVERY configuration.

  62.       There are already some well-known software companies asked to re-write their soft-
  63.       ware for the PPC like Maxon, Almathera, ProDad or Softwood."
